Because the balance is not about partisanship. It’s not about choosing judges who will decide your way no matter what. The point of the balance is to balance opposing viewpoints.
Complaining that judges don’t follow the party line seems to be a big thing among Republicans, but I don’t see it as important.

quote: I want to restore the political balance but without regard to loyalty to a party. That isn’t hard to understand. Of course you probably do and this distortion is just dishonest spin. Or maybe, as a Republican you’ve lost even the idea of principles.
quote: Obviously you don’t get it. The central point is that the Republicans have gone too far packing the court with justices that will decide their way, and a balance should be restored. Which way the balanced court rules on particular questions is less important than that there is a balanced court too rule.

Looking at the BBC site if everything goes the way predicted the margin may be even narrower. It may come down to the last state to post results.
Trump says he wants to stop the counts, but we’ll see if he does anything. Trump says a lot of things. The Texas court case where both State and Federal courts refused to invalidate over 100,000 legal votes gives me hope that the Supreme Court will not rubber-stamp any demand Trump makes (even if some of the Justices would do that). Contrary to Phat’s claim know perfectly well that Trump and some of his supporters will claim that the election was stolen if he loses. The rest of us will wait to see what happens - and what happened. )If the Post Office delays did disenfranchise many Americans - including those serving overseas in the armed forces - there should be questions asked. Especially as it seems that the delays were intentional).

The Republican attacks on democracy continue.
Seriously, how can any honest person support this?

quote: You do realise that the Republicans are more likely to pass the debt on to the working and middle class and tariffs are one way to do that? Tariffs aren’t paid by the rest of the world. They are paid by the importers and the cost is passed on to consumers.

quote: Because that IS exactly the sort of thing your friends are disagreeing with. They think you should work harder and earn the money you need to retire on. And if that isn’t possible that’s your problem.
quote: Nobody is planning to eliminate the middle class. That’s insane. Especially since you’re defending your entitlements.

Phat, you should read this thread:
But if you don’t read it all, at least keep this in mind.
I've come to realize that while...
(The break is the divide between tweets 11 and 12 - there’s no removal of meaningful text here]
... the values I'm talking about are good, most of the people who preached them never lived them to begin with.

So how is Trump going to win? So far unsubstantiated accusations of fraud haven’t done well in the courts, and that is his main strategy.
All he is doing is insulting America and democracy.

Lies and corruption conquering the truth is neither justice nor Christian - not anything I think that Jesus would support.

Tweets from a non-partisan poll challenger describing what is going on on Detroit.
Republican challengers first tried delaying the count, then challenging every ballot. All while more Trump supporters tried to force their way in. This is where the Republicans are. Democracy be damned, they must win and any notion of fairness or decency can get in the way.

It’s hard to build bridges with people who actively hate you.
Trump is going to continue to raise bogus lawsuits to try to steal the election and plenty of his supporters back the effort. Rudy Giuliani announced a major lawsuit in Philadelphia, a little while ago. The Republican Party should change their name, since they)re now openly trying to destroy the Republic.

He can mess up the Covid response even more. He can refuse to sign another stimulus Bill. He can go through with his recent executive order and put even more of his loyalists into the civil service, replacing people who can actually do the job. He can refuse to cooperate with Biden’s Transition Team, and secretly order his people to obstruct them. He can continue to inflame his supporters with his talk of Biden stealing the vote - and who knows what trouble that will cause into Biden’s term ?
But the chickens will be coming home to roost on the Covid front, well before Biden takes office. America has seen record numbers of new cases on each of the last three days (including Mark Meadows, Trump’s Chief of Staff). I think that things are going to get bad for the U.S. Over here, Boris may be an incompetent clown, but at least he’s taking action.

Don’t believe that the Democrats are not worried about China. Obama was going for the Trans-Pacific Partnership to counter Chinese influence. Trump dropped out of that.
