Saying that homosexuality is a sin is one thing, attacking the character of gays is quite another. You should be smart enough to see that. and you implied that that statement was mistaken. That statement wasn't an attack against anyone, yet you now say that my mistake was to attack the messenger. Laying aside the fact that the messenger I did attack (at another time, in another place) was making a character attack rather than relaying a message, you claimed I made a mistake somewhere in the above statement. I still don't understand where. Keep America Safe AND Free!

I highlighted the key part.
Saying that homosexuality is a sin is one thing, attacking the character of gays is quite another. I've covered this part. He is free to attack the character of gays. He can be challenged on that. No problem. But then you added...
You should be smart enough to see that. It is additions like that, asides that add nothing to the conversation and are attacks on the poster. In this case you are questioning MY intellegence, attacking the messenger. You can do better.

Well, I'm certainly attacking your logic. You say that attacks are allowed from one side only. I'll let you decide whether that is an intelligent position, but it certainly can't be defended as logical.

My main reason for moving that thread was so that Faith could answer the posts that she wanted to answer. If it had just been reopened, the piling would have started again. Once she has the chance to get to the posts that she already has waiting for her, I see no reason not to move the thread back to general forum and let other have at it. A real GD could then be started.

Regarding this post from Percy in which he suspends crashfrog:
quote: Just what is our attitude supposed to be? I read through that entire thread and I can't see anywhere that crash crossed the line, unless calling creationist nonsense lies is considered crossing a line. I note that plenty of creationists were calling evolution a lie in the same thread, why pick on crash? So, it would appear that the creationistas are given the freedom to characterize evolution proponents in any way they wish, but the evolution side is not free to point out the obvious lies and the unscientific basis of creationism. Further, fundies are perfectly free to launch character attacks against gays but gays are not allowed to respond in kind. It's your forum, you can do as you wish. But there should be no pretense that anyone who trusts science or who does not conform to right-wing christian teachings in their personal lives will be treated fairly here. In fact, there should be a disclaimer on the homepage saying something like:
This is a faith vs. science forum in which only the faithful are allowed to engage in character attacks. Any counter-attack from a person of science or from anyone who chooses not to conform to the most rigid right-wing christian ideology will be dealt with harshly. Keep America Safe AND Free!

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe balance means being vilified equally by both sides! Of course, I guess Percy achieving balance in being detested isn't the same thing as EvC Forum being balanced in it's treatment of Creationists and evolutionists, but we'll keep trying!

Forum guideline 1:
Please stay on topic for a thread. Open a new thread for new topics. I have just closed the "Soracilla defends the Flood? (mostly a "Joggins Polystrate Fossils" discussion)" topic, because of extreme topic drift. My closing message is here. The ignoring of the topic theme was so extreme (and the participents knew it) that I actually considered handing out some suspensions over it. But I won't. People, you need to do your own moderation sometimes. Maybe sometimes do something like a reply saying no more than "message is badly off-topic". The worst part of it, is that there are other active topics where some of the off-topic postings would have been on-topic. Adminnemooseus

Just what is our attitude supposed to be? I read through that entire thread and I can't see anywhere that crash crossed the line, unless calling creationist nonsense lies is considered crossing a line. I had 3 thoughts about Admin's actions: 1) I agreed that I've taken a non-constructive attitude in the past.2) I was probably due for a suspension for that and if it gives Admin examples to use of fair-handed treatment of evolutionists, so be it. 3) In the particular post that Admin replied to, I actually hadn't intended to take the attitude at all, but upon subsequent reviewing I totally understand how my words would be interpreted in that way. So, I had no problem with the suspension; it was a long time coming to me. I think we can agree that evolutionists around here are better, generally, than the creationists at framing arguments in a legitimate basis. To use an analogy, in a wealthy suburb, the cops give tickets to speeders and jaywalkers. In the poor urban center the cops arrest crack dealers, and you can pretty much jaywalk wherever you want. In other words because the evolutionists tend to avoid poor argumentation, we're more likely to have our attitudes "corrected." While creationists, who are receiving so much attention to their technical shortcomings, are less likely to be corrected for their tone. Everybody's going to have a different idea of what constitutes fair play, and for most of us, that idea is probably going to be unfair to everyone but ourselves. When we appoint a few people as admins, naturally they're going to administer according to their personal sense of fairness, and naturally, some of the rest of us are going to disagree. I've always thought Percy and the rest - even you, Moose - do the best job they're capable of. And I don't expect the board to be perfectly fair, because after all its run by human beings, right?

And I don't expect the board to be perfectly fair, because after all its run by human beings, right? Wrong! I don't know about the other moderators, but if you look at my avatar you'll notice I'm a cat. That should be all you need to know to understand moderation practices around here! All joking aside, moderators *will* make bad decisions. But the usual penalties handed out here aren't particularly severe, so the cost to a member when it is the moderator who is wrong isn't very much. The lesser moderation actions, for example suggesting to someone that they aren't following the Forum Guidelines, also raises much ire, and has generated a number of threads that do nothing more than discuss debating styles. --Percy

I would normally remain silent, but you’re really crossing the line. It is bad enough your kind practice your despicable feline lifestyle. But does your kind really have to shove it’s sinful lifestyle down our throats. It is clear what the secret agenda is of this forum and equally clear it involves furballs.
Don't take the above as a personal attack. I love the individual, it is the group that sickens me.
