At night, when today's republicans lay their heads down to sleep, which personal image of Jesus do they see:
Pansy-forgive-his-enemies-love-thy-neighbor-Jesus ? . . .
or kick-your-skull-in-full-retribution-baptize-by-watertorture-Jesus ? . . .

Religious leaders have no place in our government, but government leaders can be religious. To stop that is an infringement on many rights. The Declaration of Independence mentions a diety more than once. That is the foundation of the bill of rights and our constitution. You want to eliminate every religious thing, but that envokes your own belief, unless you can prove God doesn't exist. So it is absolutely 100% hypocritical.
P.S. we don't need religion to start wars. Look at Russia. It's people not religion that start wars. Get over it already. I am also offended by several labels that were placed on me in this thread. So the hypocrisy continues..... religious bigotry. You guys have no right to anger. You won't stop name calling with name calling. That's how wars start.

Well, since I also can't prove that party-hat-wearing-unicorns don't exist, I guess we need to include those too. Come to think of it, I can't prove that flying-purple-gorillas don't exist either . . . Or nazi-abominable-snowmen . . . Or, or, or, . . . gosh, your god is in a folder with a lot of silly infantile fabrications, isn't it?

I'm surprised your faith is so weak that you want to do that. quote: Who's looking to do that? I am merely trying to keep freedom of religion alive. If I can't pray in a court house, am I free? I don't even pray a lot publicly, or do I particularly care for it. I am just concerned about the freedom of doing it. That means all religions, and atheism. We have a right to express ourselves where ever we stand. To say you can't pray in a particular spot is unconstitutional. Then to replace it with your own beliefs is hypocritical. Either way, you all have dragged this off-topic and made it into whether or not there should be prayer in places. You all who are offended by my statement are looking to justify your own hatred toward religion and God. It's hypocritical, and you all just proved my point. Stop telling me about the toothpick in my eye, and take the plank out of your own. I made my point.

You want to eliminate every religious thing, but that envokes your own belief, unless you can prove God doesn't exist. So it is absolutely 100% hypocritical. That would be hypocritical only if dronester and the rest of us wanted atheism to be an exception. But we don't. We agree, for example, that atheism should not be taught in public schools. Town hall meetings should not be kicked off by an official announcement that there is no God. Money should not bear the legend "IN GOD WE DON'T TRUST (BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE)". The principles of humanism should not be displayed in courthouses. No atheist advocates for such things to be done. Where, then is the hypocrisy?

Atheism not taught in schools? That's a good one.

Atheism not taught in schools? That's a good one. It's illegal. If you can find an instance where it's nonetheless being done, contact the ACLU. In the meantime, I am against it being done, as I'm sure is dronester. It is none of any public school teacher's business to tell children that there is no God, any more than to inculcate any other religious view, and we will say so plainly. So where is the hypocrisy?

Atheism not taught in schools? That's a good one. Ok, now I gotta ask: what course did you take where you were explicitly taught 'atheism'? I myself don't recall any such course(s). Although I do recall almost five years of mandatory bible classes which still existed when I was young.

Those are your beliefs. You are forcing them on the rest of us. No. This is why it is illegal for atheism to be taught in public schools; why town hall meetings are not kicked off by an official announcement that there is no God; why money doesn't bear the legend "IN GOD WE DON'T TRUST (BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE)"; and why the principles of humanism are not displayed in courthouses. Not only are these things not done, not only have I never sought for them to be done, but I don't want them to be done and would oppose any such proposal. In what way, then, am I forcing my beliefs on you? Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

Those are your beliefs. You are forcing them on the rest of us. There's your hypocrisy. Forcing our beliefs on you, as you are asserting, would basically be a mandate at the beginning of a government function where there was a declaration of some sort that 'there is no god'. Do you have an example of something like that occurring?

I can see your plank from here pal.

I asked this once a long time ago, perhaps you can answer me. Where do the schools/courts/businesses get their Acme Prayer Detector 5000s? I've been to all the local electronic and hardware stores, nobody seems to know what I am talking about. When I explain to them I am looking for a device to psychically detect prayer of all kinds, they give me a generally odd look. You aren't afraid of being unable to pray, because there's really no possible way we can stop you from doing that. What you are afraid of is being told you can't make other people pray, or make them respect and honor your prayer/deity. If I am off on this, I am open to hearing how your ability to pray is being infringed upon, because using your example of a court house, it ain't. Even if the country became an Atheist Nation, how the hell would someone stop you from praying to any God? As far as Atheism being taught in school, that's pure baloney. Please show where this has been done and condoned/allowed/praised, outside of a Comparative Religion course or something similar. It was almost 20 years ago, but I don't remember any "There is no God" in my classes and I took upper level college prep courses. Edited by PsychMJC, : Goalposts moved

For evolution to be true, there can be no God - or at the very least He would become a liar. So indirectly, atheism is being taught in public schools, via evolution.

I am merely trying to keep freedom of religion alive. If I can't pray in a court house, am I free? I don't even pray a lot publicly, or do I particularly care for it. I am just concerned about the freedom of doing it. Who said you couldn't pray in a courthouse? You can pray anywhere you wish. I fought to protect those sorts of rights; or, at least, I meant to... I also swore to uphold the Constitution when I was inducted into the Army. I don't recall any mention of the Declaration of Independence--it is not a governing document of the United States.

You just wanted to squawk and then refuse to acknowledge others' arguments and debate them? Why the hell did you bring it here? Put it on a bumper sticker."If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you can collect a lot of heads."
