Personally, I think the read/unread posts thingy is annoying. I only participate in a few threads at a time to avoid being burried in responses.

I see what you mean. The "all topics" display shows 14 pages (I uses 20 messages per page). So I click on the number 14. It takes me to page 14, except that the page display bar on that page indicates that I am on page 13. There are actually 15 pages, but page 15 doesn't show up in the page display.
My normal practice is to click on the last message (the one listed in the "all topics" display). That is taking me to the last page without problems.
unlike the refusal of my profile to update my read/unread posts history ...

The computer help thread experienced a data loss, and its internal index no longer accurately reflects the messages, which causes the page links to not work accurately. I may be able to fix this by making the index agree with the messages that actually remain.
The "unread messages" indicator stops working when you've accessed the site with both "" (recommended) and "" (not recommended). This is a bug that I will eventually fix. In the meantime, if you find yourself affected by this just delete cookies for EvC Forum and all will be well (you'll have to log in again, of course).
Internet Explorer cannot delete cookies for individual sites, but those of you who know your way around the Cookies directory can find the one for "" and delete it. This has the advantage of leaving the "" cookie intact, so you do not have to log in again.

this is for percy too.
I have deleted the cookies. I got the unread/read thing to work again. And it came back in a few days. This was back in september, I think. Jar helped me with the problem. (it's in my thread "weird question" I think)
I only acces EvC with or //http://www.///cgi-bin/dBoard.cgi?c=1.
Oh, and it wasn't until just in september that the unread/read stopped working properly. And I haven't changed any settings (to my knowledge) as to cookies. I'm just putting up with it for now, and rely on the all-topics page with the latest message link (fortunately, those do turn dark brown, from light brown, when I click on them).

I only acces EvC with or ...
Me too.
But every now and then, I fall into a trap. Somebody posts a link to another message, and that link is to just (without the "www."). If I click on that link, it screws up my cookies. I usually notice it, and go to the firefox cookie manager to clean out the junk.
My point is, that this can happen without you noticing.

Yep, exactly. Some members tend to leave the leading "www" off the links they post.
I'm going to try to fix the computer help thread now. Temporarily closing it.

Broken Link?
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but the "site map" link at the bottom of the page doesn't seem to go anywhere.
http:///HTML/SiteMap.html

avatar issue
I've been trying to change my avatar but it doesn't change. When I press the choose file button I am able to choose a file and it lists the name correctly, but no image appears when I press update avatar. I have tried using old avatars (which worked before) but still no luck.
Any suggestions?

Re: avatar issue
Yeah, refresh. You are seeing what is in cache. Pumpkin is there.

Re: avatar issue
Thanks. I had to hit refresh several times, before I saw the change. Do you know why that might be?

Re: avatar issue
As a suggestion - in Mozilla, and most other browsers, you can hold down "CTL" when you hit "Reload" and it'll ignore the cache.

Likely a lack of Faith on your part, you need to believe in what is seen and unseen. Moderate theists have no such problems.

Re: avatar issue (re: updating that pesky cache)
When I've had such problems in the past (using Mozella, I think), I recall that it has helped to click on the avatar (even if you're displaying the old one), which gets you a full sized version of the new avatar. This process seems to force an update of the cached version. You should then get the correct display on the various message pages.

Thread listed twice
This is interesting. On my Topic Index page, "Election 2006" is listed twice. One listing has post #9 listed as the last post I wrote on that thread, and shows that there is a reply to it (which is true; berberry has replied). The second listing has post #10 as my last post on that thread (which is true at this moment) and shows that no one has replied (which is also true).
Edited to add:
Perhaps relevant, berberry posted his reply to my post #9 at almost the same time as I posted #10.
Edited again to add:
I meant to say that berberry posted his reply to my post #9 at almost the same time I posted an correction to that post.
