Well, everybody has already made the most obvious point, that the God of Truth wouldn't lie to us by making a 6000-year-old world look like it was billions of years old.
Another point is that if we're going to talk about God like he's magic, and can do or make anything he wants, then what's the point? Any conceivable question can be answered with "God did it that way."
We tried that explanation for many, many years. We call that time period "the Dark Ages". Only when we realized that we inhabit a kind of "clockwork" universe - that God doesn't just do things at random or in a deceptive way, but that the universe is rational and predictable - were we able to develop medicine, technology, and all the things that make it so great to live in the now and not in the Dark Ages.
So, your explanation is worse than unscientific. It posits a universe that is neither rational nor predictable, and who wants to live there?
