quote:Please do attempt to explain the difference! If it is real age, why has it been concealed from us by religious leaders and discovered by infidels? quote:So he plants evidence for things that his book contradicts, and then he slams everyone who goes with the most trustworthy knowledge they have - firsthand observation. I don't buy it. Why do so many consider belief in a young earth to be a requirement of true faith when our senses and reasoning capability, applied in the most sensible manner, tell us that it is old? quote:I think you mean "objective." I don't objectify an answer unless it's in the form of a busty brunette in a tight little dress.

quote:Are you talking to me or somebody else? Try hitting the reply button on a particular post - it will reduce the confusion you create. As far as this quotation, it is rather inappropriate in the current discussion. Are you trying to avoid real discussion by threatening me with divine judgment for using the reasoning capabilities with which I was born? I don't take it seriously, but anyone who did would be very offended.

quote:Haha!!! Good call! Actually, the thought of saying that had never really crossed my mind. Not in those terms, anyway. I was more interested in asking you to actually answer my post. You know, where I asked you if your post (directly after mine) was a response thereto. If that is in fact the case, and you are asking me what my question is, you must have missed the fact that my post (to which you seemed to be objecting) contained two questions directly pertinent to the actual topic of this thread. Go ahead and check it out. Number 7.

quote:The God described in these posts is either not omniscient or not omnipotent. Let's start with the first part: he knew where I (for example) was going before he created me. That means that he knows, right now, whether I am going to heaven or hell. That's part of omniscience. Let us assume, for the sake of discussion, that I am destined for hell because I don't believe in him, and my faith of past years is probably not going to get me anywhere, especially after what I'm posting tonight. Now, since God is omnipotent, and he doesn't want me to go to hell, I won't go to hell. But wait - God already knew where I was going when I was created. It has already been determined by him, and he knows it, and being infallible, he can't be wrong. So, it's outside of his power to change my destiny! To quote Douglas Adams: "Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

quote:You have got to be effin' kidding me. How many satanic lust-worshipping homosexuals do you personally know? I'll bet all my cash and a couple of limbs you're just regurgitating the same rhetorical garbage someone fed you, the same I was fed in my fundie church a few years ago before I saw the light. Since then, probably unlike you, I have actually known a few men who prefer to have sex with men, and they have been just like everyone else: just trying to get by in the world, go to work, pay their bills, and have a roof over their head and food on the table and a few friends who accept them for what they are. Honestly, you need to think about the words you say and what they really mean. If you did, you'd probably realize you have no basis for saying them beyond the fact that you heard them and it makes you feel purposeful when you repeat them.

quote:Not to go sidetracking the discussion, but I'd just like to suggest that if you did both those things in the dark and then turned on the lights, one would probably cause you slightly more concern than the other.

quote:Honestly, can't you be bothered to post the text for those of us who don't have a Bible in reach at the moment? I'm assuming you have it memorized or physically present yourself, so do us a favor and quote it.
