Re: "Out" of Egypt...
Brian did not misquote the Bible. Did you forget that there are differnet translations ?
Here are some of them
Young's Literal Translation:
`Speak unto the sons of Israel, and they turn back and encamp before Pi-Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-Zephon; over-against it ye do encamp by the sea,
New American Standard Bible:
"Tell the sons of Israel to turn back and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you shall camp in front of Baal-zephon, opposite it, by the sea.
Amplified Bible:
Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the [Red] Sea, before Baal-zephon. You shall encamp opposite it by the sea.
English Standard Version:
"Tell the people of Israel to turn back and encamp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp facing it, by the sea.

Biblical expertise?
Hang on, PaulK, it can't be that Jim isn't even an expert on the Bible, can it? That seems nearly as incredible as his claims.

I concur.
Ex. 14:2 ". . . וישבו (and let them turn back) and camp . . ."
וישבו (v'yashuvu) from the root שוב (shuv)
שוב - vb. turn back, return . . . (in Ex. 14.2) - turn back and do so and so. {The Brown - Driver - Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon, F. Brown, S. Driver, and C. Briggs, Hendrickson pub.}

Re: Charles Knight's challenge...
WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!!!??? I did not know a new thread was started!!!! Sorry guys, but I've been offline for 2 days now because we were in the middle of a transfer from dialup to DSL.
NOW WE HAVE VERIZON DSL and comes along with MSN Premium! It sure is fast! I could never go back to dialup!
Anyway, to PaulK,
I have some posts typed up on Word addressing issues from the old thread, and never was able to post them due to the thread closing, and service transfer. I have more evidence for why I believe there is validity in rewriting Egyptian history, and this data will be coming soon.
There is actually so much more that support Moller's theory, regarding the 18th dynasty, and the true dating of the Exodus. So stay tuned folks...
Brian,
There is a whole slew of extra info that lead us to believe the Exodus happened during the 18th dynasty besides Merneptah's stele, so I wouldn't put too much weight on that...since even if you are right, it doesn't negate all the other overwhelming evidence that completely negates a 19th dynasty scenario.

Turn, turn, turn...
None of those verses say that they turned/returned to Egypt!
I use the King James Bible, it just says "turn" -- so "turn back" is an assumption of the translators, because "turning" could mean to turn to either side, or to turn back --
But I'll guarantee that it NEVER meant that they returned to Egypt! How can I prove this?
Exodus 14:11 -- "And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die IN THE WILDERNESS? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, TO CARRY US FORTH OUT OF EGYPT?"
Do you see, guys? THEY WERE OUT OF EGYPT!!
Therefore the crossing site is in NOT IN EGYPT, nor is it on the border of Egypt! It is OUTSIDE OF EGYPT!
Go ahead, use whichever translation you wish -- this verse clearly shows that they did NOT return to Egypt, and when Pharaoh caught them they were OUT OF EGYPT -- they were at the Gulf of Aqaba!

I hope that this time you've done your homework and actually found genuine evidence.

Re: Turn, turn, turn...
I don't know how you can say turning back is just an "assumption" - especially not when one of the translations is supposedly a literal translation. But the verse certainly seems to indicate that instead of going into the wilderness they headed back towardfs Egypt, and that rules out Aqaba which requires that they track across Sinai.

Re: Turn, turn, turn...
The verse only says they turned back to "Phihahiroth, between Migol and the sea" -- it DOESN'T say they returned to Egypt!
And later in Ex 14:11 it says they were talking about being trapped by Pharoah and they were OUTSIDE OF EGYPT!

Re: "Out" of Egypt...
Brian, "turn back" simply means they were on their way to the promised land (on top of the Gulf of Aqaba), and God told them to "turn back to Pi-hahorith", meaning, "instead of going on, turn back to go into the Wadi that leads to Pi-hahorith".
This picture clears up what that verse is talking about:
What waste of time of trying to figure out that silly verse folks. All you have to do is look at the map correctly, and you can easily figure out what it means:
Thanks to Andrew Jones (Arkeologist) for providing me this map
We must realize that they reached Etham, went forward, turned back, entered the Wadi to to camp at Pi-Hahorith, crossed the Red Sea, and landed at Etham again.
Nothing mysterious about that verse if you try and visualize it using a map.

No problem bud! Anytime...anytime...
I'd studied Exodus 14:2 (and the other verses) for about 2 days straight a week ago before this subject was even brought up, so it turned out good.

Map of Exodus route
I have to give you credit. That map and visual display was a very impressive and convincing piece of work.

Yaro, then you need to prove that they were some place else!
As far as we care, we've proved we are right!

Re: Emperical evidence?...
Buz, if there is emperical evidence tell me where in the world I need to go to see it? To look up close at it. To (with permission or good reason) touch it? It is somewhat analogous to the broken, replaced parts at the, perhaps, shady car repair shop. I want to see them!
Hi Ned. Where in the world can go to see how the first living cell came to be, how DNA came to be, how the sexes evolved in all living creatures and while we're showing and telling, how I can view the evidence of a closed system universe?
But we are one up on you. We have the video of the photographed evidence, the existence of which nobody has even attempted to refute by on site inspection. Have you viewed the video? We have it, Ned. You people don't have it for much of your alleged imperical stuff.
