Author | Topic: Wizmaster presents.. EvC Poster of the year | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

It's time for people to nominate a person for the poster of the year. To help you with your struggle to ascertain who this giant of EvC posting should be, I recommend five wiz categories, each category being scored out of ten, using these categories to see how your nomination does in each. ( This is however, just a recommendation, but your nominated person should register well in each category ) So here they are;
1. Objectivity/Open-mindedness2. Debating skills 3. Behaviour/attitude towards other posters 4. Contributions to EvC. 5. Knowledge and effort So have at it my bad. (Is that good US lingo? ) --> Get voting, lines close December 31st 2004. You are only allowed one nomination, the winner is s/he with the most votes. (Please make it clear who you are voting for) Bad example; " Oh I really like Pob ". That's fine - but is Pob your nomination?Good example: " I choose Pob ". Percy - he gets ten out of ten in all categories.
Objectivity & open-mindedness: He's consistently objective and rational. Debating skills: He's probably the most eloquent poster I know of - always communicates his point well. Behaviour/attitude towards other posters: He's sometimes harsh, but only when it's well-deserved - which is usually better than being ultra-polite all the time. Contributions to EvC: Um... he owns it. And he never fails to make a worthwhile contribution to any thread, even if it isn't serious. Knowledge and effort: I sometimes wonder just how many degrees he has that he's not telling us about. I don't really think there's any other choice; Percy is the first person I think of when I consider who are the best posters on EvC. If only there were more like him... Rei was close, but she only just returned. "Good evening. I'm playing the role of Jesus; a man once portrayed on the big screen by Jeffery Hunter. You may remember him as the actor who was replaced by William Shatner on Star Trek. Apparently Mr. Hunter was good enough to die for our sins, but not quite up to the task of seducing green women." -Stewie Griffin |

Your only allowed one nomination. That's five nominations of one nominee. Now don't get clever, those other four Ned's don't exist.

His postings may well come off a being sterile, but I look at that as being because they are clear and concise.
Bill doesn't post many messages, but most all are POTM contenders. Go here, and enter "Bill Birkeland" (minus the " ") into the "Search by User Name" field, to get a listing of his most recent messages. This list includes multiple messages in the same topic. Moose {Added by edit - commenting on tabulation later in this thread: I pretty much can't disagree with any of the selections on that list. Of those on the list, I actually look forward to seeing anything posted by Bill Birkeland, NosyNed, Percy, Truthlover, Mark24, and Sylas. Both Percy's and NosyNed's output tends to get diluted some, as they both tend to sometimes operate somewhat in the "admin mode", even when posting under the cited names. But Truthlover, Mark24, and Sylas all could have been my pick (I hope this isn't a violation of what I said in the following message. Also, this addendum subject to further change). } This message has been edited by minnemooseus, 09-22-2004 08:29 PM

I am surpressing commenting on why one or more of the nominees are not "Poster of the Year" caliber, and I SUGGEST that others do the same.
Just may your nomination - Don't debate the merits of the others choices. Adminnemooseus

Rei, has always, been my hero ,here and when I grow up I want to be as smart as her.
For, someone of her young, age she astounds me. She knows, at least something, and usually, a lot about just about any subject I've seen brought up here. (either that or, she googles better than I do)

The Standings so far
1st: Bill Birkeland - 2 votes2nd: Percy, Ned, Crashfrog, Rei, Truthlover - 1 vote each _______________________________________ Advice (ignore if you want); Those categories I mentioned, I mean it's your choice but the idea is that someoneis the poster of [this year]. So, you might want to;1. Hold off a bit longer; 2. Consider those categories which are also important, contributions/behaviour-attitude. So, that's my advice anyway cos it should go to the poster of [this year] rather than our favourite poster. Thanks. Bad Example; daveythemouse posted a good post in 2002 and I agreed with him, so he's got my vote. This message has been edited by mike the wiz, 09-21-2004 06:54 PM

Ok, I've never participated in any of the "Post of the Month" topics or anything like that, but what the heck, I'll join in the fun on this one. Providing, of course, that nobody minds.
I think I misunderstood at first. I thought we were nominating a poster in each category, but it's just one poster based on how we score them, right? Ok then, in that case I would say *drumroll*... Ned. 1. Objectivity/Open-mindedness -- 10 Listens to everyone and doesn't dismiss things out of hand. 2. Debating skills -- 9 Perhaps he doesn't have quite the finesse or cold, hard logic of someone like Rrhain (personally, I'm convinced the guy is half Vulcan ), but he's still very good. 3. Behaviour/attitude towards other posters -- 10+ No contest whatsoever. Ned's attitude speaks for itself. 4. Contributions to EvC -- 10 It just wouldn't be EvC without our Neddy. 5. Knowledge and effort -- 9 Again, Ned's knowledge base may not be quite as specialized or detailed as some of the others here, but it's pretty damn good for someone who, to use his own words, "doesn't really know anything." I certainly hope that, one day, I know as "little" as he does.

Ahaha. Thanks Tony, I enjoyed your post, and I can certainly not say you are wrong about Ned. Thanks for actually scoring your personal champ.
PS, (To Tony and others who haven't voted) you are right Tony - it is one poster, and then I suppose u can add up their score out of 50 if you want. But there's no strict rule, you can just choose a name and skip all that stuff. But choose wisely., the categories are there as a guide! Forgive me for not being succinct. No problem, Mike! Glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for the clarification.
Ned is one of my personal champs here at EvC. I have others, which I like for different reasons. For example, when I initially thought we were to nominate a poster in each category, I was going to nominate Rrhain in the "Debating skills" category. But if I have to whittle it all down to one person (which is very hard, I must say ), Ned would be my overall choice. I quite admire him, for numerous reasons. He is very much how I would hope to see myself one day. Anyway, I ramble. I don't know what to count the 10+ as (and in my opinion, Ned is well and truly off the scale, in that category, anyway), so we'll just tally it as a 10. That brings Ned's total overall score to 48/50.
