I've heard no proof to back that claim up.......other than that it was destroyed by a tsunami.

It's just one guy. He's got more reasonable over the years.

Nor did Darwin rely on the ideas of spontaneous generation disproven by Pasteur. For the concept of first life, he did......

PaulK, the guy who proposed the Atlantis theory, and really has overwhelming proof to back it, was a different guy, I believe.

How exactly do you think the complexity of microrganisms hurts Darwin's theory? I believe the nature of complexity found in them strongly supports his theory. Because it makes the problem of first life incredibly hard........especially with the extremely limited time span.

Besides having visited the excavation site of Akrotiri myself and talking to the archeologists, there is an exhibit in Athens with the documentation of santorin as the mythical atlantis. Here is a website with references to two books on the subject.

What does the documentation say, and who was it by?

Read the link. That is why I posted it.
By the way, your comment about Pasteur suggests you are conflating abiogenesis and evolution. Do you know the difference between the two?

No, Darwin certainly did not rely on the idea that life regularly formed in soup and other foodstuff. I've already explained why that is against common descent.

I'm guessing that the former holds that life sprung from inanimate chemicals........which isn't necessarily evolutionary theory, but it's usually combined with evolutionary theory.

PaulK, if there's no last common ancestor, then there's no evolution......

Hancock has definitely put forward Atlantis theories in the past - but a lot of other people have too.
So who is this "Atlantis" guy with "overwhelming" proof ? Where can we see his arguments ?

Because it makes the problem of first life incredibly hard........especially with the extremely limited time span. Why? There's no reason to think the complexity of the first life, and the complexity of modern microscopic organisms are related.

Mammuthus, after reading that, I see no reason to believe that that was the origin of the Atlantis myth.........other than the fact that it was destroyed by flooding (as many other places have been) and was geographically close to Athens.

I'm not sure of the meaning of your comment, except that it confirms that spontanteous generation is more in line with the views of the opponents of evolution as I have already stated.
