They are actually considering treating as criminals those who preach the Bible....
Here in Saskatchewan, a man was recently convicted of using hate speech against gays, in the guise of "preaching the Bible". http://www.saskhrt.ca/forms/Descisions/050205.htm
I'm proud to say I was one of those who reported him to the police.
...forcing laws on us via a leftist judiciary....
I don't know how it works in the U.S., but in Canada the legislature passes the laws and the judiciary interprets them. (By the way, our judiciary is far too right-wing to suit me. )

I can't tell from a brief glance through that very lengthy report exactly what it is about.
If you can't be bothered to read the report (which is shorter than many of your posts ) here are a few quotes from the pamphlet in question:
quote:
childrenlearning how wonderful it is for two men to sodomize each other;
Now the homosexuals want to share their filth and propaganda with Saskatchewan’s children;
degenerated into a filthy session where gay and lesbian teachers used dirty language to describe lesbian sex and sodomy to their teenage audience;
ex-Sodomites and other types of sex addicts who have been able to break free of their sexual bondage and develop wholesome and healthy relationships;
sodomites and lesbians who want to remain in their lifestyle and proselytize vulnerable young people that civil law should discriminate against them;
Our children will pay the price in disease, death, abuseif we do not say no to the sodomite desire to socialize your children into accepting something that is clearly wrong
Sodomites are 430 times more likely to acquire Aids and 3 times more likely to sexually abuse children!;
Born Gay? No Way! Homosexual sex is about risky and addictive behaviour!;
If Saskatchewan’s sodomites have their way, your school board will be celebrating buggery too!;
Don’t kid your selves; homosexuality is going to be taught to your children and it won’t be the media stereotypes of two monogamous men holding hands.;
The Bible is clear that homosexuality is an abomination;
Sodom and Gomorrah was given over completely to homosexual perversion and as a result destroyed by God’s wrath;
Our acceptance of homosexuality and our toleration of its promotion in our school system will lead to the early death and morbidity of many children;
(Now you know: that is what is considered "hate-speech" in Saskatchewan.)
You were the one who complained about liberals "treating as criminals those who preach the Bible". I simply pointed out a case where that is a good thing.
...you are simply having an argument and stating your liberal case, instead of helping to define the categories....
It's a spectrum: far left, left, center, right, far right. They are not "categories", so "definitions" are irrelevant.
What we're discussing here is where we draw the line between "liberal" and "conservative". That line is obvoiusly in a different place in Canada than in the U.S.
I initially responded to Tal's claim that liberals are "ashamed of being liberal". I told him that I am proud to call myself "liberal". (Note to Canadians: that's small-l "liberal", not big-L "Liberal". )
I continued that theme with you, stating that I was proud to stand up for my liberal beliefs.
To sum up: instead of trying to define "liberal" with a lot of hot-air rhetoric, I'm trying to give an example of what it is to be liberal, and why that is a good thing.

If you're going to quote me, at least read what I said:

"In the guise" of preaching the Bible means that he was pretending to preach the Bible when, in fact, he was preaching hate. It's the same as if he was preaching hatred of black people because the Bible condemned Ham's descendents. It's the same as if he was preaching child abuse because Jesus said, "Suffer the little children."
It's not persecution of religion. It's suppression of a perversion of religion.

They have the freedom to marry a member of the opposite sex just like anybody else.
Like Henry Ford used to say, "You can have a Model T in any color you want - as long as you want black". That isn't freedom.
Real freedom would be the freedom to marry the person of their choice.

What if I want to marry my dog or my horse?
Its my choice. That's real freedom. It would be bigoted of you to tell me otherwise.
Need another reading lesson?
I'm not telling you otherwise. By all means, marry as much livestock as you want.

@#$% liberals!
arachnophilia writes:
the dangerous bit is not the conservative use of the word "liberal" but that they are using to describe other conservatives who do not fit their particular radical ideas.
Exactly. The "everybody-to-the-left-of-me-is-a-liberal" definition of "liberal" is pretty useless. To many pseudo-conservatives, the word "liberal" has become just another swear-word, like "commie" or @#$%.

(Pssst. Don't tell anybody, but we actually have a "socialist" government here.)

Re: Since we seem to be running out of time
Many moons ago - I think it was during the Nixon administration - I read something similar in a Canadian newspaper editorial:
A liberal thinks everybody in the world wants to be an American.
A conservative wants to make eveybody in the world an American.

Unfortunately, you don't know what the words mean.
You don't know the meaning of the word "liberal", you don't know the meaning of the word "conservative", you don't know the meaning of the word "left", you don't know the meaning of the word "right", you don't know the meaning of the word "murder"....
