What is Liberal?
Here is what I think.
Liberal is the will to look toward the future and see what is best for not only the individual (person, religion, and any special interest group) but for everyone within the society. Being liberal is when you look at the possibilities that could result from change from the status quo and see how you could acheive such a change for the better of society.
Examples of famous liberal events in history in this nation (in no particular order):
(1) Faith (one of our posters) and her kind is given the right to vote.
(2) The Declaration of Independence.
(3) The Emancipation Proclamation. (Note: if you don't know what this is, I'm going to kick your ass!)
(4) Declaration by the Supreme Court of the unconstitutionality of Sodomy Laws (2001).
(5) Social Security/Welfare/Financial Aid for students
(6) Roe VS. Wade
(7) The First Amendment

do think that some "liberals" need to re-establish their definition of religious freedom. The ability to exercise your faith within the law needs to be fought for ferociously whenever challenged and I find it a bit troubling that some on the left don't cry out louder and harder any time there is a case of religious persecution in the name of separation of church and state.
Well, can you name some instances where the christian religion is persecuted in this country, especially in modern times?

No, you don't, It's a fact. A very well established fact at that. You are just going to have to deal with it, I'm sorry.
Hey, Yaro, as much as I appreciate your position on the subject, I get nervous everytime an argument is presented in the form of "since you don't choose your sexuality blah blah blah..."
So what if it's a choice? Whether it is a choice or not to being gay has absolutely nothing to do with the gay rights issue. Think of the moral and legal implications when we use such an argument.

Speaking of choice, I wonder if people like Tal would consider animal to be capable of choosing. Penquins, ducks, apes, monkeys, lions, etc. all have been observed to exhibit homosexual behaviors in the wild.

Noone is perfect
Just joking.
The OP states:
quote:
I know this question has come up before, but I am really interested in getting peoples take on what 'liberal' is.
To which I answered with this post.
I was just jokingly pointing out that I was trying to be on topic.
