nwr writes: The new hospital will be successful or not Yes, that's a tautology. Seems rather a false dilemma, since success is not measured so discretely either-or: thus I can imagine (in fact, observe) a world where "The new hospital will be successful or not" excludes possible (and observed) outcomes, e.g., "struggling but achieving much." The hospital statement is neither valid nor true in all possible worlds.

I confess to a mischievous nature on even my best days.
But picking out logical fallacies is a lot like picking nats...er, nits, checking carefully with a fine comb. Actually, the discussion of fallacies just looked liked fun, and I wanted to join in my own merry way.

Fair enough. It just seems everyone is correcting my notes. I suppose they think I'm fair game, in that I lack overall-knowledge/education.
It's true, I lack knowledge, but I am atleast reasonably smart in atleast some areas, so it kind of irritates me when people are teaching me things I already know. Forgive my angry young animal trying to break forth on your angry young vulnerable newbie-dino. I think I'm just in a bad mood today.

Fair enough. It just seems everyone is correcting my notes. I suppose they think I'm fair game, in that I lack overall-knowledge/education. I think it's just the give-and-take context of this site (and I don't mean that as a correction), and you seem sharp enough to me. I don't know where you stand in your education, but a quarter century ago I was a 30-year-old college freshman; I spent six years, 12 months a year, on a full-time class schedule, having the time of my life. But in the years since, none of my employment has been directly related. Some of the most intelligent, insightful people are neither academics nor academically trained; some folks think outside the box because they were never stuffed into one. Formal education is great, but I'd rather engage a keen mind than a well-drilled one.

some folks think outside the box because they were never stuffed into one. Lol. Thanks for sharing that. It's interesting that your employment didn't relate to the knowledge you gained. So feel free to share it here, and ignore my cranky mood. It's just one of those days, you know, where the slightest thing annoys you for no apparent reason.

Cranky!? To paraphrase comments made to Dan Quayle when in debate he compared himself to John Kennedy: Mike, I know cranky: cranky is my friend. I have worked with cranky for many years, and I can tell you one thing for sure... Mike, you are no cranky. I will take you up on your offer to share on that subject sometime soon, perhaps in a Coffee House thread. Gotta run.

islam accepts that christianity and judaism recognize the same god (i think i've decided we don't return the favor) but think that our methods are screwy. think of the way some christians often regard jews. that's the way a some muslims regard both christians AND jews. neither is really acceptable within the mainstream religion, or the texts, but it does happen. ideally, islam should easily fit together with christianity and judaism, but it doesn't.
i don't see why pagans wouldn't accept a christian god into their pantheon. because the christian god IS exclusionary. he rules out all other gods.
i think the only religions that are really exclusive, are the big three... you can only be one of those... you can't really be a christian and a jew. it doesn't work. (with jew here representing a religious not a cultural aspect.) you accuse me of being jewish all the time, dear.

bush's strategy in iraq was theoretically flawed. if there's peace in iraq in 20 years, all the better. it doesn't mean he was right; it just means he beat the odds. luck. dumb luck.

He is going to take over your churches, schools, and corporations. You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they are carried out depends on him. So it might be well to pay him some attention.
