Hopefully when the mirth subsides you'll have gotten the point - and seen yours refuted Incidently, when Paul chose (in Romans 1) an example of human sinfulness on which to demonstrate Gods wrath poured out on all the ungodlyness and wickedness of men, it was sexual perversion that he used. What point? That the number of hits you get for a search term on google means something? I seriously hope that isn't your point.

Objectively he does stand out from the crowd. Um, no he doesn't. There are billions of people who disagree

Name another person in history who is more prominant and had more impact than him. Encylopedia Britannica has an entry on him running to 30,000 words. I'm sure he is more prominant in Wiki than anyone else. Google has spoken already today.
Gallingly, atheists add to that prominance by spending lots of time talking about him - even if it is only to argue against his existance.

i quite like the number-of-google-results-proves-me logic, so i will use it too:
jesus: 209,000,000bill: 1,050,000,000 all hail bill but now to my real point: theist: 755,000atheist: 25,600,000 theism: 2,500,000atheism: 12,500,000 this PROVES atheists are right, or there are no theists, or theism is wrong or whatever...

thank you. i've been lurking for a long time. had to post something.
i forgot to answers to the original questions: 1. Why don't you believe in the divine?no need for it. 2. Do you believe in anything without evidence? it would be quite time-consuming if i wouldn't. but there is no connection between those two points. the things i 'believe' without evidence are within reason.

socrates maybe?
he did effect philsophy in all kinds of ways, including how it works how people debate philsophy and come up with new ideas i guess arguing from majority is suposed to sway us to your view ian?come on man you've been on evc long enough to know that is a fallacy that doesn't work. It wasn't jesus who is prominant but the stories, beliefs and ideas about him that are prominant. to attribute the popularity of jesus to jesus is just narrowing the pov. he's dead he didn't do a damn thing Google has spoken already today.
sorry but using how many hits a term comes up with on google is inane at the highest, you don't seem to realize the number of hits something has is useless, anyone can put a word under the key listing in the html so google picks it up, thats what they do with porn sites so they get more hits
Gallingly, atheists add to that prominance by spending lots of time talking about him - even if it is only to argue against his existance.
he's a religous figure of nearly 2 billion people or more, and they talk about him a lot, whats your point?being the subject of a religion with a huge following would mean the subject would be talkeb about, its kind of hard to talk about christianity without talking about christ don't you think? Edited by ReverendDG, : typos and such

this PROVES atheists are right, or there are no theists, or theism is wrong or whatever... How does it prove it? I don't recall using Google to prove anything (only kidding...I'll take the CAPITALS as indicating tongue-in-cheek) But remember.... . . . . . . . . . . . . . .be careful out there! Welcome to EvC rokfaith.

iano writes: Would you fancy relationships with folk who had no choice but to obey you? Not much fun in that after the novelty wore off. Not much chance for love to flourish either. Fair enouth. But would you then curse that folk and thousands of generations after them if they did not obey you? Eventhough they had no knowlege of good and evil at the time of transgretion? The size of a punishment must match the size of the transgretion. I think that selfish little god of yours is just throughing a tantrum for not having things his own way

Some people might think you're still kidding yourself. How would they know otherwise? Might?, lol. They do, and they wouldn't know. We can guess, and judge people by their actions. A good tree only bears good fruit, etc. Shouldn't matter either way, since we are supposed to treat everyone with love. I don't like the idea of it being some kind of exclusive club. Because I don't know who will go to heaven or not.

You may not believe this, but from a very young age I was questioning stuff.
I was in my mothers arms, and she was pointing at several cars lined up in rows. She said, see your dad, he's there drag racing. I said to myself, a drag race is between 2 people, why do I see more cars than I can count? I was 1.5 years old. It took me 25 years before I found out the answer to that question, when I came full circle, and brought my car to the track, and saw the staging lanes, and it all came back to me. My dad was in the staging lanes. What a trip. I never believed in anything, unless I had objective evidence. Now I find myself in an odd place of believing something without objective evidence.
Being exposed to xian concepts is the only way to make a xian. The default position is very definitely not belief in christianity. We may learn to believe in anything. But only to what we are exposed to. Somewhere along the way, somebody had to make this stuff up.

Every religion makes some similar claim about why they are unique. Without opening up a can of worms as to why Christianity IS different from every other religion, who cares what religion claims?

theist: 755,000 atheist: 25,600,000 theism: 2,500,000atheism: 12,500,000 That's because all the pages with the word atheist on it, are actually theist's pages talking about atheism. Call back when you have read them all.

Might?, lol. They do, and they wouldn't know. My point, exactly. Eventhough your account of how you became religious was very touching (I really mean it), your personal epiphany (I'm almost sure that's not the correct speling) cannot be transfered to other people. You're basically saying that you feel in your heart that there is a true god. To answer the OP question, atheists do not feel that in their heart.
I don't like the idea of it being some kind of exclusive club. Because I don't know who will go to heaven or not. Point taken. I had noticed that from your previous posts too. You come across as one of the more openminded of the posters in the "Faith and belief" side of the coin in this forum.Unlike, for instance, Faith that stated recently in another thread that people die of AIDS as punishment from god for their sins (what a load os crap...)
