It is refering to someone who 'Deals with the spirits of the dead'. Such people would be those who channel, and those folks on the sci-fi channel that 'talk to the dead'.. those are the kinds of people they are talking about (John Edwards was one of them). "Witch" covers the territory well enough. It's all about dealings with demons. The spirits of the dead do not communicate with the living. It is demonic impersonations of people that communicate, when it's real and not a fraud of course.

Why don't you follow the argument sometime, hm? Lot said about why we don't kill witches any more if you'd been paying attention.

Jesus is alive forevermore, not dead.

When you know the supernatural is divided between God's kingdom and Satan's kingdom, there is no doubt that the various occultic practices are all in the latter, and to call it all "witchcraft" will suffice.

The word "evil" in Isaiah 45:7 does not mean sin and badness, it means calamity and disaster. It is an archaic use of the word. The evils that befall us all sort of thing. At least one other translation as I recall has "calamity" there. I can't access Blue Letter Bible for some reason to check that out right now. But that is how I have always read that verse. It is therefore directly saying that it is God who brings all the disasters on the world.

I was very clear that ONLY in a theocracy would it make sense to apply that command, but I was not completely sure about whether it would apply even in that case now that Jesus has come.
But we aren't a theocracy and there is NO doubt in my mind that there's no way to apply such a law in this case. {Edit: Besides, your idea that any individual could just go kill witches is false. The context of the laws in the Bible was the legally constituted justice system of Israel.} Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

There was always community. And the laws that God later gave Israel were simply codifications of what was already known by the righteous, which included the restraints of determining evidence and seeking the safety of many counselors.

I trust the official translators over an amateur student of Hebrew.

'Twas you who said the Hebrew made the difference. You quoted no rabbis. And any Bible translater has to know Hebrew quite well. And yes, the rabbis half the time haven't a clue about their own scripture. Totally in the dark.

Yes, we have community now and more than community, we have a justice system, and yes of course the same should apply. We should have the death penalty for murder.

He predicted Katrina, others have been shown by God about destruction. But mabye those messages are for us alone, and to be told before it happens. After the fact is pretty much pointless, and ignored by unbelievers. "Then they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land a desolation for all the abominations that they have committed." Ezekiel 33:29. Edit:Who shall know? Those who now don't know of course. Not believers. Know what? "That I am the LORD." Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. When will they know this? AFTER God has made the land a desolation. Yet the men who write the bible, because you agree with their point of view, are exempt from the fallibility of intellect you claim all men have.Refering back to a point you made here, No, even the great prophets were fallible, but God's word was inspired and preserved by God HImself, not the men who wrote it. They wrote under God's inspiration and He is the one who made sure they wrote the truth. They wrote only when "moved by the Holy Spirit."

That's irrelevant and off topic. If God inspired them then their fallibility is not an issue.

I understand that you consider your personal dogma to trump the dogma of the Church of Jesus Christ, but at the very least you have to learn how to reckon with the word "IF" and basic logic in a discussion like this.

I was specifically answering your false generalization that to be prophecy it must refer to the future. That verse proves you wrong. It was spoken by a prophet and it was prophetic and it was about how people would know something AFTER it happened. So drop your false accusatory overgeneralization.
I don't follow the rest of your post, except that it sounds similarly accusatory and judgmental. I don't just willynilly decide what Jesus fulfilled on my own impression, I base it on how many Christian commentators and preachers interpret it all, since I've read and heard a lot on it, and "there is safety in many counsellors." You on the other hand appear to trust in your own personal impressions and impose them on me as if they were gospel truth. God does not lead us all by the same way or for the same purpose. What he tells one may be very limited in scope, and should not be used to judge what he tells others. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.
