That discovery wouldn't necessarily translate into worship: Gods have a lot to answer for--but at last we'd have someone to demand answers from...
The discovery of one god would probably lean me toward the existence of others. History records a multitude, and if history were proved correct so far as a single god, then I would think that history might also be correct that there are many.
Bottom line, though: If we want gods, we'll have to become them.

Real things always push back.
