Bah! ... I live in a city of about 50,000, we have no public transit other than taxi. There is a system for the elderly...ect, but no bus. Public transit is a joke for most Americans This is one of many problems we face in USA.. Try dragging a three-horse trailer into the back woods with public transit. The silly little libs graduating from Yale and Harvard have no idea what goes on in the real world. Yet they are set to rule us all--for our own good, of course.

What I am saying is that mass transit is not the solution to all problems, although libs in the northeast seem to think it is. It's for our own good, you know.
I am not sure what you mean?? Please clarify, dont forget I am often slow.

What you are describing is the cities. Try dragging a three-horse trailer into the back woods with public transit. Nobody lives in the "back woods", Coyote. Despite the lionization of "rural America", less than 20% of Americans have actually chosen to live there, what with the drug problems, rampant unemployment, terrible provision of public services, awful schools, and unavailability of culture. And you are wrong, there are a lot of people who find the "back woods" superior to cities in many respects. But that's OK. You stay in the city and I'll stay in the back woods. Deal?
The silly little libs graduating from Yale and Harvard have no idea what goes on in the real world. The "real world" is in the cities, Coyote, and it's you "rural Americans" who don't know anything about them. You know of course that all large cities are about two days away from real trouble if the supply lines are cut for any reason at all? And like New Orleans, most folks would just sit there and wait for the gubmnt to come save them. In the case of a real disaster that's a pretty vain hope. But that's OK. You stay in your city and leave the rest of us alone and we'll all get along just fine.

How about you libs let the rest of us alone, eh? This is the change I was discussing. For example, he is talking about hauling a three horse trailer into the wilderness. The answer is to have vehicles capable of that available on a per use charge basis. Your "answers" might be fine for the little libs from Yale and Harvard--they obviously don't know any better--but the rest of us have our own ways of doing things.

Ah, a 1 rating for that last post.
Obviously I tweaked some lib somewhere! (Good. They need it.)

The key is that you are going to change, one way or another. The goal is to find ways to minimize the pain of change. Ah, I'm going to change, eh? For my own good, of course? (Or is it for the children?) Do I get to drive my 4x4 to the reeducation camp, or do I have to take the bus?

You'll be able to rent a 4x4 if needed.
Gee, that's big of you. The guvmnt will come by to save us, real soon now. You libs sure seem good at trying to order our lives for us. Don't know what we'd do without your help. (But I'd like to try.)

Try climbing a few dozen miles of bad roads, rising some five thousand feet, with a heavy trailer and three fat horses with all their tack and the camping gear. For example, he is talking about hauling a three horse trailer into the wilderness. As long as the road isnt too rough my passat 1,9 TDI could do it with ease (has done it) 105 hp but tones of torque diesel baby and if my math is correct 42 miles per gallon. Wimpy little cars need not apply.

(But I'd like to try.) No one is saying you have to give up your car or truck, I know I wont either. What is being said is that public transit could help reduce our use of fossil fuels. Nobody is disputing that. Those who can use public transit should do so. Also, cities should be redesigned to make travel less necessary, with residential units in close proximity to shopping and employment. What I dispute is the jackbooted libs who want to force their choices on the rest of us--for our own good, of course.

Wimpy little cars need not apply. It's self-correcting, Coyote. Oil will become less and less available. Lower supply with continually growing demand simply means higher prices, until you can't afford to fuel that truck any more. That's not a "liberal agenda," it has nothing to do with government regulation, it's a simple fact that there is a finite supply of natural hydrocarbons and we are blowing through it at a rate far faster than it could ever be replenished. That's why increasing pressure to develop alternatives to gasoline and diesel are needed - we need to develop those alternatives before we can no longer afford to drive our current vehicles. If an electric/hybrid/Hydrogen/whatever truck were developed with equal hauling power to your existing truck, would you drive it, all else being equal? Sure. And I am all in favor of alternatives. What I object to are mandates, and that is what libs seem especially good at. Public transit is good for the northeastern corridor so everyone has to use it! (We studied at Harvard and Yale so we know what's best for the rest of you.)

Who the fuck gives a shit about horses, Coyote? That's nothing more than one of your rural America elitist affectations. Do you think the average American knows shit-all about horses? Man, how out of touch with the average American can you get? (Also - what, are your horses just lazy? If it's so important for them to get up a hill, let them out to walk.) I didn't see a smilie there, but I am assuming one. ;-)

jar writes: So far you are the only one talking about mandates. Change though is coming whether YOU like it or not. And if I don't like your "change?" What is it, the reeducation camps? Your dogmatism, and your apparent willingness to force your "change" on others does you no credit.

Wouldn't you be happier in New York or San Francisco? There are a lot of us liberals in the heartland. They are fine places, I hear. ;-)
