Of the list there were three items that possibly should be allowed but only under very limited conditions and only ONE that should be allowed without any conditions.

as long as they follow existing marketing, sales licensing.
Everyone should have the right to practice their chosen religious cult but if the want to market and sell the product in either public spaces or commercial spaces not owned by that chosen religious cult they should have to abide the same conditions as any other vendor.

Proselytizing is simply marketing and sales and so should have to get the same licenses as the hot dog, taco or balloon vendor. They should also should not be allowed false marketing claims. If they claim to be able to sell someone salvation they should be required to provide proof of fact to back up their claims.

And just how do you propose we do that? You have asked me time and time again to explain how I know that what I market is GOD, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit and I have been unable to provide you any proof or evidence apart from my own fallible and occasionally nauseating self. (Which would be a reason not to accept my product!

Exactly Phat, it is impossible for you or anyone else to meant even the bare minimum standards for truth in advertising or product liability and so why should you be allowed to market such a product?

Phat writes:

Personally, it has been my understanding that if we market our product well, people will be offended. The reasoning is that if Jesus offended the mainstream (and was crucified for it) then any good mall prophet will be ridiculed and laughed at as well. Are you suggesting that the so-called Great Commission (our reason for marketing in the first place) needs to be kinder and gentler and proven to be an attractive product before it can be licensed for public consumption?

Come on Phat; we've been down this path many many many many times over the years.

Let's step into the WayBack machine to 8-8-2010.

The evolution of the Great Commission over time.

The Great Commisison was a human construction and a fine example of how marketing evolved. There is NOTHING in it that should offend people EVEN in the various human modifications and revisions and changes added by the Biblical Apologists.

It has to do with obeying Jesus Commands; the very thing that YOU and most of modern Christians refuse to do.

It's not "Do as I say" marketing but rather "Do as I do" marketing as originally written.

The way to fulfill the Great Commission is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, protect the vulnerable, teach the children ... not Proselytize and shout Lord Lord.

If you offend thy neighbor you are doing it wrong.

Phat, Phat, Phat.

We've gone over the answer to that question a brazillion times.

Telling YOU that you must feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, comfort the sorrowful, heal the sick, protect the weak ... offends them what got.

It was pure politics.

The very same reason each of the creeds were created.

The very same reason each canon was created.

The very same reason each of the Bible versions were created.

Re: Its The Republicans, Stupid
If Jesus was here today he would condemn everyone who does not follow his commands.

He would certainly approve of those who say we must feed the hungry, heal the sick, shelter the homeless, comfort the sorrowful ... and actually at least try to implement that.

You are still still totally blind.

Jesus never cared what people believed, what their ideology happened to be, he looked at what they did.

Today Evangelical Conservative Christianity is nothing but 100% chewing their cud GOATS.

Their lips are always moving but nothing of worth is ever said.

Re: Its The Republicans, Stupid
If Jesus were to return today he would not Have a Little List.

He would condemn everyone in the Right to Life cult.

He would condemn everyone who tried to restrict voting right or deny comfort to those trying to vote.

He would condemn everyone opposing efforts to mitigate global warming.

He would condemn everyone who opposes universal healthcare and a single payer system.

He would condemn everyone that stormed the Capitol on January 6th.

He would condemn everyone in the Right to Life cult.

Shall I go on?

Re: If Jesus Were To Return Today...
Phat writes:

So would He condemn efforts to form a mandatory government who told us what we must pay, to whom, and for how much?

Of course not. Jesus was not a Barbarian.

Phat, has anyone ever read you the tale of the five fat years and the five lean years? God tells the Government that it MUST do what is necessary and make the people do what was necessary for the good of ALL.

Phat writes:

Would He condemn those who opposed religion?

Of course not. He clearly points that out in his lesson. No where does he condemn the non-believer. Now the later Apologists certainly did starting with John and most effectively with Paul. See Luke 4. Look up Naaman.

Phat writes:

Would He accept those who did not believe in Him? Would He oppose those who did?

Absolutely. It was acts not beliefs that were of any importance.

Phat writes:

Would He care what we professed and would He applaud those who did what He said regarding helping, feeding and clothing others? Would He condemn most current professors of Christianity? Would He thus favor those who were empathetic humanists who denied that He was real yet who advocated mandatory taxation to help not only the nation but the whole world? Would He mind the inflation and debasement of the currency and the dishonest ponzi scheme of the current Federal Reserve and Treasury Department?

He'd point out that whoever wrote that rant was simply uninformed, out of touch with reality and delusional.

Edited by jar, : added a few minor points that we've discussed endlessly.

Re: Fairness Can Never Be Restored
You keep claiming that social support programs make the middle class poorer but as always never provide any evidence or reasoned arguments to support your assertions.

Re: Fairness Can Never Be Restored
Past UNFairness Can Never Be undone.

But back to basic Christianity and what it teaches.

Humans are fallible.

As a Christian we are required to honestly evaluate our past behavior, acknowledge when we have both done wrong and NOT done what was right.

But wait; there's more. We are then expected to try our best first to make amends (fix what we broke) and to make sure we do not continue to repeat bad past behavior.

It's not God's job to grow the wheat, harvest the crops, build and fill the granaries and feed the people. It was the Government that was mandated to direct the job and the people to do the work.

And there is still yet more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not even God's job to make sure the weather is nice to grow the crops. It's the Government's job to organize the population to make use of everything favorable and to set aside a surplus for those times when the weather sucks and the economy sucks and things go wrong.

We need to make amends and reparations and set asides and ...

As a Christian it is YOUR job, duty, obligation.

to tie Percy's last sentence into the topic...
Percy writes:

Stop trusting what the Republicans say the Democrats said and vice versa. Listen to what people actually did say.

Stop trusting what the Apologists say the Bible said and vice versa. Read what it actually did say.

Throw your god and the gods of the Carny Barkers away.
