Re: Homounionization?
If homosexuals don't want to be like heterosexuals, which seems obvious enough to me, then why do they want to do a heterosexual thing like get married? If they were truly committed to their caused they'd adopt a different term, like "homounionization" or "homobonding."
Statements like this is why people keep labeling you a bigot. It's natural to want to couple with someone who you are sexually attracted to. Homosexuals, since by definition are attracted to someone of the same sex, will then want to naturally couple with someone of the same sex. It's not that they don't want to be like heterosexuals, it's that they want the right to marry the person they are coupling with, just like heterosexuals. If you honestly can't understand this then you have no compassion for you fellow human.

Re: Minority opinion rules?
You mean it's ridiculous to suggest that a majority should rule in a democracy? What would you prefer instead?
Of course it's ridiculous! The majority should never be able to vote away a minority's rights, which is just what prop 8 in California and ammendmant 2 in Florida do. You would not want to live in a country where your rights could be removed just because you are in the minority.

Re: Minority opinion rules?
KJ, why do you suppose SCOTUS has not yet overturned DOMA? And when do you plan to leave America?
Oh so you're one of those love or leave it folks. It's more constructive to try to fix things sometimes, so I have no plans to leave the United States of America to the religious bigots.

Re: Minority opinion rules?
I didn't say you were a religious bigot, I just pointed out that your position on this issue and the way you word your responses appear to make you just a plain old homophobic bigot.
It's not bigoted to point out someone else's bigotry, so no more of this childish "I know you are but what am I" responses please. Some opinions are bigoted, if you hold these opinions and make them public your should not be surprised if people hang the "b" label on you.

Re: Minority opinion rules?
I'm sorry, kjsimons, you just don't get it.
Yes I do and so does most everyone else on this site. You are the one "not getting it" ! On other issues and topics you appear to be rational and your posts are useful and informative, but not on this topic.

Re: Homounionization?
Marriage means a civil union between one man and one woman. That is the opinion I hold on the matter. And, incidentally, my opinion on this matter seems to be supported by a majority, both in the popular vote and in the SCOTUS. You hold a different opinion, and without majority support. We can have differing opinions, can't we? Why is yours so supremely moral and superior to mine? Why should the majority opinion be overthrown to grant you yours?
Since you haven't understood what other posters have said to this point I will make one more attempt to enlighten you. Just because a majority of voters decide that a particular minority (in this case homosexuals, ~10% of the population so they will never be a majority) doesn't deserve a certain right doesn't make it legal or moral. Homosexuals will never have a majority so their rights will always be trampled on until people recognize this. It the majority decided that blue eyed people couldn't vote would that make it moral or right? What harm is there in allowing willing partners to marry regardless of sex? Currently marriage is a government institution and so therefore cannot discriminate based on sex or religion. This issue will definitely end up in the Supreme court within the next 20 years. Hopefully sooner than later.
