Chalmers, long time no see.
I agree with you that I hope Obama wins, although, unlike you, I haven't donated or volunteered for his campaign. I'm still a bit apathetic towards voting, and more of an amateur, armchair political enthusiast.
I haven't looked too in-depth on his issues, but one in particular is an irritating thorn in my side. It regards his energy policy, and more specifically, "low-emissions coal", or "clean burning coal".
The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama
He claims he will invest $150 billion in "clean energy", which includes solar, wind, and
clean coal, to name a few. But just how much of this $150 billion will go towards each form of energy? How much money, if any, has the coal industry provided towards the Obama campaign? Are fossil fuels not simply something we must rid ourselves of but to use in moderation with renewable, sustainable energy sources?
Clean coal -
Coal pollution mitigation - Wikipedia- to my limited understanding, smells of something that is still very experimental and tentative, with several issues at the forefrunt: carbon sequestration, coal extraction, coal transportation, etc.
AbE: The U.S. actually has the largest coal reserves of any other nation. With this in mind, amalgamated with the power of the coal lobby, it seems almost certain that coal will be a part of our energy policy.
Coal - Wikipedia
Just how large a share coal will hold in our energy consumption remains to be seen. I hope it is severely limited.
