Hi Nuggin,
I think it would be fascinating to recreate a neanderthal, as then we could answer some basic questions about vocal ability, intelligence and perceptions (music and art appreciation, etc), however I don't think it is possible to get much more than that due to:
(1) lack of cultural heredity (memes) for "normal" neanderthal behavior. We don't know how to fake being neanders, so they would be fosterlings.
(2) the inability to make a true clone at this time, thus the fetal development and mitochondria would still likely be H.sapiens, and this could skew the results in unknown ways. If the result were a "new and improved" neander model, then it would not really tell us anything about the old model.
Enjoy.
note to volunteer moms: plan on a C-section, their heads were bigger.
note to volunteer care-givers: plan on getting hurt, their muscular structure is naturally stronger than sapiens (the same way chimps are, by having better leverage).
note to program administrators: what nature preserve are you willing to turn over so they can have their aboriginal reservation and the basic human right to self rule?
