Arguing
To a great extent we are all here just 'cause we like to argue.
However, there are forms of good conduct. If you make a statment you back it up.
You have yet to do that anywhere that I've seen. You agreed to the guidelines.

back up
When you make a statement you don't have to back it up right away; UNLESS someone asks for the backup.
Then you are obligated if you are dicussing in good faith to either back up the statment or withdraw it. Anything else is intellectually dishonest.
Jason: You are a candidate for the boot camp if you can't understand some simple things about an honest discussion. I haven't noticed you backing up even one of your claims. Please show me three places where you have; start backing them up now or you will be assigned a spot in boot camp so others can assist you in how you should conduct yourself.
You seem to have ducked out of the golden ratio discussion which, IIRC, you started. That is a particularly lazy, dishonest and annoying thing to do.

A bit more care please
I will start to do some of what is required of regular posters in the boot camp so you can get an idea of the help you need.
THIS proposition is moronic........and I refuted it earlier.
The "moronic" is unnecessary even if it did happen to be true. When involved in somewhat complex discussions of this type it is necessary to be a bit more patient.
If you believe that you have refuted something the individual you are talking to my have forgotten, not seen it or misunderstood. It would be appropriate at the this point to restate the refutation or link to it.
(note: you may use the [msg ] tag to make pointing to it easier.
Go here for details of how to use it: EvC Forum: dBCodes
So, what you're saying is, that an event that has 1000-1 odds against happening isn't highly unlikely?
That is not at all what he is saying. I suggest you read more carefully and ask questions before you make as many off-the-cuff statements.

another lesson
All scientists? No, not all scientists believe that.......I was never implying that literally all scientists did.
Then you have to use words more carefully. If you read the primary scientific literature you will note that words are used carefully. YOu see things like "suggests" when the author feels that the evidence "proves". You see the use of "may" even when the case is rather stong.
When carrying on discussions you have to say what you mean. "All" is a risky word to use unless you really know what you are talking about.
You meant what you said. You were wrong. It would be appropriate to admint it.

Bugs
There is, Jason, a technical problem in the software that seems to go off when there are more than 300 some posts in a thread. The whole thing will break and recent posts get lost if we let it go too far.
You response is not acceptable.
The only reason you are not restricted to boot camp is because you are a bit new here. You're being given a chance to smarten up before you actually get restricted.
You don't have much lee way left.
