So sad. Exactly the wrong direction IMHO. And not at all what I'm talking about.

Yeah, Odessa's 110 miles from here. An article from the local newspaper:
Page not found - Odessa American and one from when it started up: Page not found - Odessa American I don't know Superintendant Sollis personally, though he lived here in Snyder until a couple of years ago and plays banjo very, very well. He seems fairly fair-minded on the issue. I haven't yet Googled up the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools to see just how "unbiased" and non-preachy their curriculum is. But I can guess how the course will actually go down....

It's not what I would consider a unbiased approach to teaching Sacred Studies. Here is a link to an outline of the curriculum.

Dunno if 'Sacred Studies' would be appropriate as what was sacred to one wouldn`t be to another. How about 'Voodoo through History'?

jar writes: Should Sacred Studies, the study of religions, their history, their effects on society, the basic tenets of each and inter-relationships be taught as part of the general public education in the US? Yes, I think so. And not just in the US but everywhere. Personally, I would have been very interested in such a subject at school but there were none available (so far as I could tell). There was "Religious Education" but all we ever studied was Christianity. Not to suggest, of course, that this, in and of itself, is a bad thing. On the contrary, any worthwhile study of religion would have to include Christianity. But I wanted to learn about other religions, too. Based on our education, you could almost be forgiven for coming away from it thinking that Christianity was the only religion in the world. I think it would also go a long way towards easing some of the tension between certain groups if they actually understood each other's beliefs rather than simply being told that they are all "wrong," "evil," "Hell-bound," etc. I don't see how it could be anything but helpful to eliminate the ignorance between differing views. It's almost as if some people live in a bubble, with absolutely no understanding of the different perspectives out there, save that they are all "wrong." I'm not saying that anybody should be forced to agree (and I would never support such an idea), but I do believe it would be in everybody's best interest to be educated. It seems to me that a significant amount of the tension, debating, etc that exists could be avoided if so much energy didn't have to go into clearing up misconceptions between different groups. Just imagine how much we'd save on brain cells (and nerves ) if all the varied groups of people didn't have any misconceptions in the first place. I guess you could say that I think such courses would be beneficial in numerous ways. Just my opinion.

Absolutley.
But should the science community demand equal time to teach evolution in the class? The creationists insist it's some sort of religion... Mat 27:5 And he went and hanged himself Luk 10:37 Go, and do thou likewise. |

It is bad enough that our children are subjected to secular lies. Why on earth should we compound this calamity by subjecting them to unholy notions like Islam, Buddhist, Hinduism and other assorted satanic notions!?

I agree. Our children should only be taught about the one true God, Lord of Lords, King of Kings: Odin the Allfather.

You make no sense; it seems that Satan is addled your wits! For our Strict Instruction tells us clearly Jesus Christ is King of Kings, Lord of Lords: "That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. 1 Timothy 6:14-15
But let us not be sidetracked with your off-topic quips. Our children's education is very important. We can all agree that the underlying criteria for education should be Truth. For example, mathematics and Christian instruction adhere to this criteria; evolution and unchristian religions do not.

Its painfully obvious that you've been deceived by Loki. From time to time he creates these false religions and suckers other people into following them, it's a great laugh.
For example, mathematics and Christian instruction adhere to this criteria; evolution and unchristian religions do not.
Why should any kind of religion, wether it be my one true one or your false one be taught in public schools? Religion should be left at the church/temple/mosque/sacrificial altar and not brought into our publicy funded schools. *not an actual doctor

quote: You mean like having Christianity taught to Muslim and Buddhist kids? Christian schools in Indonesia used to do that in what can be called a covert missionary action. Thank God this practice is now outlawed and all schools must supply religious education proper to the beliefs of the child's household. Muslim or Buddhist children can learn about Islam and Buddhism, instead of the unholy notions of Xtianity.

So would you be opposed to a Sacred Studies course where every child studied Religion and religions?

Christian instruction should be taught for exactly the same reason that mathematics should be taught: they both impart truth! It is of course quite sensible that public funding be used for these subjects. I find it quite remarkable that people rile against The Lord's Truth, yet are quite willing for their children to be taught satanic falsehoods like evolution. And your evidence is?

We've gone over this, you're wrong and I'm right. Christianity is a lie made up by Loki. Loki does things like that, he's kind of a jerk that way. *not an actual doctor
