I'm not going to get into too much here, as OT prophesy isn't my strong point. I just wanted to quibble with a small issue with your discussion of Alexander the Great and prophesy in Daniel:
Of course that is just what happened, Greece's great horn, Alexander the great, died suddenly and four of his generals each took control of part of Greece's area of control and created four kingdoms. Daniel then goes on to describe what history records as what happened to those kingdoms.
First off, Alexander wasn't Greek, he was Macedonian, and after his death his half brother and his son were named co-regents for several years. After their deaths, it was FIVE of Alexander's generals that divided up his empire...
Ptolemy - Egypt and Palestine
Nicator - Mesopotamia and Syria
Cassander - Macedon and Greece
Antigonus - Asia Minor
Lysimachus - Thrace
Yes, I'm probably being a bit nit picky...but its been a long day and I don't care.
Also IF Daniel is Maccabean in time, than this supposed prophesy concerning Alexander is well after the fact also, seeing as he died in 323bce (but like I said early, the facts don't fit anyway)

WmScott,
Alexander was Greek, Macedonia was part of the Greek empire, or Greece was part of the Macedonian empire we refer to as Greek
I think that is really pushing it. Alexander also brought Persia into his empire, doesn't that make Alexander Iraqi? No wait, parts of his empire included the Persian areas that would become Turkey ....that would make him Turkish.
Antigonas wasn't attempting to "continue" Alexander's government, he wanted the entire empire for himself instead of just a portion of it and fought with the other four generals over that. When he died, his family continued to hold part of the old empire for another century and a half. That still makes more than four independent kingdoms.
At one point in time it was divided between three of the generals, eventually it ended up between two of them. The power in that region changed so often during that first century after Alexander's death that grabbing onto one section of it and claiming prophesy fulfilled is rather ridiculous.
Josephus states that Alexander the Great, in the fourth centuryB.C. came to Jerusalem, was shown the prophecies in Daniel about him and stated that it did indeed refer to his military campaign against Persia.
OK, now if you take Josephus as reliable, you have Alexander "proving" the prophesies? Alexander also believed that Zeus was his real father due to prophesies made by various oracles of the time. I guess Alexander believing this makes it so.
