1) I think physics, chemistry, and mathematics are "fake" sciences in that they do not study the natural world, but rather, study simplified mathematical models about it.
or rather, religions. mathematicians readily admit it's a religious idea, based on the faith in their initial axioms.
2) I'm tired of hearing about the Holocaust. It's usually invoked as an excuse for Israel to do whatever it wants. As a historical event, it happened, and people who say otherwise should be opposed; but there's no additional need to have "awareness" of it.
well, there is, but only so it doesn't happen again. so i'll throw my controversial corollary into the mix: the nation most likely to commit the next holocaust is israel. when one examines some zionist propaganda, it reads a lot like nazism from time to time. the only difference is that the jews posed no real threat to germany, but the palestinians really have bombs.
3) Religion is pretty much ridiculous.
as a religous person, i am forced to agree.
4)... Joss Whedon is a douche.
speaking of which, allow to reiterate exactly how much his script for alien: resurrection blew. it made alien 3 (with 13 rejected drafts, and a shooting script written during shooting) look like a classic, and avp look decent. it butchered the greatest alien comic ever drawn. i wrote a similar treatment when i was 12. it's that bad.
everytime someone in hollywood goes "i know, let's give the script treatment to joss whedon!" they should be slapped with a copy of buffy the vampire slayer. and then copies of every single episode of the tv show.

i not only fail to see the supposed difference between humans and other animals, i also think most people are generally dumber than my cats. the only thing that makes us something more than mere monkeys is our technology (especially razors), which de-centralizes knowledge, and possibly even makes us stupider. no one person can do much of anything, if you really think about it. and 90% of the people out there can't even use the technology we've got, let alone explain how it works or construct something like it themselves.
i think the fact that humans are really stupid pack animals explains quite a lot about society as a whole.

Re: Maybe I'm reading you wrong...
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are fake sciences?
And possibly religious?
May I ask why and what exempts biology from this?
biology studies the real world, not a theoretical model of it.

edit: that's very strange, somehow, it pulled brenna's login information cookie instead of mine. i know i've posted more recently on this computer than she has.
I don't see it as religion. Even in mathematics, there's a rigor that leads to faulty models or hypotheses being rejected. But nothing is ever rejected in religion.
not totally true. lots of stuff is rejected in religion. look at, say, the inquisition.
Everybody's heard of the Holocaust by now.
i'm not sure that's perfectly accurate, but generally true. ironically, most people aren't totally aware of the holocaust wrt to anyone other than the jews. 5-6 million people in other groups died too. and much fewer people have heard of stalin's holocaust, or mao's... really, we should learn from our history, and it's a mistake to focus on one tiny portion of it, and then not learn from it. it seems that the lesson most people take is "killing jews is bad" instead of what the warning signs and dangerous ideology are.
...no wonder that movie totally blew. Like, what I can't figure out is - when Hollywood wants to make a space marine movie, why do they look to anybody but James Cameron and Bill Paxton?
to jean-pierre jeunet's credit, he was responsible for city of lost children. but it's hard to stand up to people like ridley scott and james cameron and david fincher, and really, it's just not the right style for the franchise. but yes, i blame most of it on whedon. it's just a really, really bad script.
speaking of which, he's writing a script for wonder woman right now. and let me tell you how excited i am about that! it promises to be better than that fantastic four movie!
quote:
Was asked to revise the script for X-Men (2000), and reportedly decided the whole script needed to be totally rewritten, when he handed the studio this draft, they apparently threw it out, they only really wanted him to add a couple jokes here and there.

Did you like the first X-Men Movie and Toy Story 2?
in reference to joss whedon?
nearest i can tell, he didn't have anything to do with either of them. the producers hired him breifly for the first x-men movie to insert some jokes, but he thought the script was so bad he completely re-wrote it. his re-write was discarded. so our venn diagram of "likes x-men" and "joss whedon" has no overlap.
i will give him credit of helping to write the first toy story, which was a decent movie, as i recall. i haven't seen the second.

Re: Maybe I'm reading you wrong...
n what sense does biology study the real world and not theoretical models above physics and chemistry? (I'll leave maths out)
it's a rather biased statement, and one that's actually unfounded, i'll admit. it's more of a joke directly mostly at physics than anything. all science certainly studies the real world.

Loved Asimov's take on that in the Foundation novels where the Foundation had started exporting technology as a religion. Say the right prayer and press the red button and it works.
having used technology all my life, i can surely say that the more advanced it is, the more prayer becomes important in its daily use.
"pleeeeeaaassssee work this time. please...."
