In other words, if one guy in town has a wheelchair should every business in town be required to build a ramp at their own expense?
Absolutely YES!
About 30 years ago the Man In Motion tour really got this all going and now there are almost no intersections with out ramps in the curbs. Very few businesses are not accessible. Of course, some people who are selfish, unchristian assholes might not like spending the civic and business money but we did it.
Recently, the building code requires lever type door handles (which I put in during my own renovations). More government interference in a private home the UCAs would say.
The result:
Mothers and Fathers with baby carriages can get around, old folks walking have an easier time of it. Old ladies with grocery carts manage better. Everyone is better off. Even the usually able bodied who have an injury benefit.
In homes you can actually open a door with your arms full using your elbow. The UCAs were wrong.
