A PRAYER OF ONEA Poem
Swinging through the trees,
eating bananas on a branch,
Along comes a leopard,
taking the ape to its death.
For a fleeting second, intellect strikes...
a creative thought enters ape's brain,
"why? why, must I die?
I want to survive!
We are far too good...
the smartest of all beasts!
this fate that my kind suffer,
is unfair, injust... to say the least!
Why must we apes be left unsheltered
from hungry, carnivorous beasts,
Why must I have been on a limb,
exposed as vulnerable prey?
As Leopard tore into ape's jugular,
darkness overtook the ape.
Silence... and satisfaction for the predator,
That is nature's way.
God heard the prayer of the innocent ape,
God considered her desperate plea,
God thought and pondered ~
if ape could build houses,
if ape could cultivate farms,
if ape could fend off predators...
MAYBE I can answer this humble prayer of one.
Ape evolves into man.
