I handily admit that I am not a physicist.
Then I am not interested in what you have to say, you are a waste of my time.

But before you open that door, Monty gives you a choice. Suppose you chose Door #1. Monty, who knows where the prize is, shows you Door #2 to show you a goat. He offers you the chance to change your mind and take Door #3. Do you? Why or why not?
Who cares.

If I am a waste of your time because I am not a physicist, then what are we to make of you who is also not a physicist? By the way, the problem of the flood is not one of physics. It is one of topology. That's a branch of mathematics. I am not a physicist. I am, however, a mathematician. Rrhain WWJD? JWRTFM!

quote:quote: I do. It will show if you are capable of figuring out a simple problem in logic even though you have no formal training in it. You are the one claiming that I have poor skills in logical processes, even though that is what my formal training was in. You are the one claiming that you can "common sense" your way through most any subject. So time to put your money where your mouth is. Here is a simple question in logic. I'd like to see how you do. You're given three doors to choose from. You pick one but before the answer is revealed, the host (who knows where the prize is) reveals one of the uncovered doors to show you that the prize is not behind it. He then offers you the chance to switch to the other, unchosen door. Do you switch or don't you? Why or why not? No fair looking up the answer. Use your common sense and figure it out on your own. Who cares. It's a logic problem; a chance to show us the power of your common sense. (Actually, this is a famous problem that demonstrates how so-called "common sense" can be wrong about so many things.) AbE: On second though, spoiler removed. Be prepared, I am going to start a new thread proving that your logic is flawed.
I would love to converse with you on this subject, but you always seem dead set on proving me wrong no matter what I say, or explain. You try to accomplish this by taking things out of context one by one, and say if this is wrong, then all he has to say must be wrong, and then write off every thought I ever had has being foolish, or driven by religion. I find this extremely illogical. You don't understand what I am trying to explain, because you are so deaad set on believing the flood never happened, or you just didn't really read what I wrote.

That is not what I claimed, that is what the people of the forum think.I fully realize the difference between education, common sense, and how the 2 interact with each other. You should be aware of this too, as in your experiences, you have meet people with good educations, who are still idiots. Not all of them, but enough. You changed the question, do you even realize that?

quote: Remember what Ned said to you, rat? That you might want to ask more questions when people disagree with you? I will tell you what I see in your exchange with Rrhain. I see him creating several very clear pictures, especially with his bathtub example, of his points. I understand, through those examples, exactly what he is trying to say, and I can see that he makes sense. I see you ignoring those examples, and instead of explaining, point by point, how his logic or math is flawed, you simply say, "No, you're wrong". You keep saying "Rrhain's logic is very flawed", but you need to SHOW how it is flawed, in detail. Tell me how you could keep that object in the bathtub submerged for 20 minutes if the water only came halfway up the side of the object. Tell me how both the lake and the river could be at the same level if the Hoover Dam broke.

To try to get this back on topic, can I get you to answer the question in Message 49.
Maybe if we take this one small step at a time we can get somewhere. Is it likely the Ark existed if there was not enough water to float it? Aslan is not a Tame Lion

They perfect sense except that they have nothing to do with what I am saying. If I cleary state that my theory doesn't require anymore water than what is here already, then why would rhain proceed to waste my time calculating how much water it takes to fill up a sphere or a bath tub. Obviously rhain does not get it, as usual. In order to have good logic, you must first start with an understanding. If you don't understand what a persons saying, then no matter how much logic you apply to it, it will be wrong. I waste to much time with rhain in my life already, showing this to him. I am a very busy person with a family and business, I do not have time to explain to rhain things. He needs to take the time and go back and re-read what I said, and ask me questions if he doesn't understand it, not try to prove me wrong. I don't have these problems with you, or ned, or lam. At least when you guys speak you make sense, even if we don't agree.
I see you ignoring those examples, and instead of explaining, point by point, how his logic or math is flawed, you simply say, "No, you're wrong".
I have done this already, I see no need to do it again. But for purpose of this theory, and this thread, and my sanity, I am going to start a new thread, and use this thread as evidence that rhains logic is flawed, point by point. Not in this thread.
Tell me how both the lake and the river could be at the same level if the Hoover Dam broke.
Answer it yourself. How long would it take for the lake to empty out, and during that time, what would be the level of the lake vs. the level of the river?

Ok, I am not exactly sure how much water it would take to float it. Maybe we can figure it out together.
The dimensions are
This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. It was made from cypress. So we would need to figure the minimum thickness of wood neccesary to be structually sound, and how much the whole ark would wiegh dry. Then add the wieght of all living things and food. Then figure out how much water it would displace. I would guess it needed at least 20 feet to float, buts thats just a guess. Keep in mind something else. If the flood happened the way I am thinking it might have, Noahs ark would have never come to rest on a mountain top. But maybe in the valleys of a mountain range would have been possible. If we knew where the ark landed it exactly, it would disprove my theory immediatly. I was watching National Geographic (as per neds instructions) last night. I'm sorry but I caught it the middle of the program, and didn't get all the details, but they were saying something about finding something on the bottom of the black sea that would prove noahs ark.

I do not continually insult anyone.
What I said I stand by. Many others will concur that there is indeed jerk scientists in the world. This does not mean everyone, but if you feel the need to take offence, sorry. I have not failed any tests yet.The one by Lam I will answer in due time, time is something I am limited on. I fully intend to answer that problem, but not just answer, understand it, and be able to explain it from any angle. The other test did not supply all the information needed, and was more or less a trap. I have stated as a rule of thumb, I never hang an object from another object. This may have come from a lesson based on that very catwalk that I learned years ago, because I remember reading about it at one point in my life. So yes, even though I pocess common sense, I still need to learn from others mistakes. Some people can't even do that.

I would guess it needed at least 20 feet to float, buts thats just a guess. Okay, step two. Do you agree that we now need a section of water that is at least twenty feet deep and bigger than the Ark to float the sucker? Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Absolutly.
*edit* Wait! Running flood waters could move the ark into deeper water, without it being 20 feet, but the bible doesn't describe it that way. This message has been edited by riVeRraT, 09-27-2004 03:23 PM
