If you change your alias, all your posts seem to change to the new alias. Good.
But today I was looking at my list of most recent posts. And I noticed that old threads that I started were shown as originating with my old aliases (Ben!, bencip19). Given the purpose of allowing multiple aliases (to allow somebody to change their ID, because they didn't like the original) this seems to be a bug in the feature that should be fixed. Ben

I'm in a very busy period, but short requests like this are a nice change of pace. The problem should be fixed, let me know if you notice any similar problems on other pages.

The membership listing at the top of the page has the names persist for 30 minutes since the last activity of that name. Thus the previous alias will continue to show up for a while.
I can get the same sort of thing, if I am somehow logged in under both the minnemooseus and Adminnemooseus ID's, although they are separate ID's and not aliases. Bottom line: Not really a bug. Adminnemooseus

logging out is not the same thing, it closes the connnection.
you want to log out to protect yourself, especially if you are on a public network (wireless, library, etc)

I'd suggest that loging out should remove the ID from the member list immediately and not wait for 30 mins of inactivity.

I've just noticed that the forum time didn't track the "set ahead 1 hour" of this past weekend.

This is an interesting one. The Perl function "gmtime" returns a flag that is set for times that correspond to periods when Daylight Savings Time is in effect. But now that I think about it, my recollection of GMT is that it has no Daylight Savings Time (can someone confirm?). This would mean that during the winter, British time and GMT are the same time, but that during the summer British time is an hour ahead of GMT time, and naturally the rest of the world has an equivalent discontinuity. It also means that time calculations based upon GMT won't change when Daylight Savings Time changes. So what the heck is the Daylight Savings Time flag of gmtime for?
There are a variety of solutions available, I'll get this fixed soon. In the meantime, EvC Forum has not yet switched to Daylight Savings Time. This message has been edited by Admin, 04-06-2005 03:15 AM

I have left my "profile" time zone selection set to the default value of the eastern U.S. zone.
I noticed that the time zone stamp of new messages now match up with my local time, which is the central U.S. time zone, instead of being 1 hour ahead. As I see it, the forum time was not set ahead 1 hour this past Saturday night / Sunday morning. AM

This is interesting. A little while ago I posted a message in the thread "Organized Religion & personal Spirituality". Topic Index for Chiroptera indicates that I did write message #76. However, when I check that thread, my message is no where to be found, and message #76 was written by [Dan's clever alias]. Phatboy responded to that message, and, sure enough, Topic Index for Chiroptera indicates that replies for #76 await. Even though I didn't write #76. Even though I actually did write #76. Or something.
No big deal, but those responsible for bugs and maintenance may find this interesting.

Addition to previous message -
I note that Phatboy today edited message 1 of that topic, to change the topics title. Could that somehow throw a kink in the system? Adminnemooseus

I note that, as the current record sits, your most recent message at that topic is message 74.
Can you confirm that a "lost" message was posted by you, after that message 74? Or might that message 74 be the last message you posted there? As it now sits, I sure looks like Dan's message 76 overwrote your message 76. {Another oddity I just noticed (times my time settings): Message 76 is noted as being posted at 2:14 pm, in reply to message 75, noted as being posted at 2:15 pm. The reply was posted first!} - Added by edit - Scratch the bracketed; Either my eyes or my brain were playing tricks on me - AM Adminnemooseus This message has been edited by Adminnemooseus, 04-11-2005 05:09 PM

Yes, that is correct: I did write message #74. However, a little later (I did not note the time; Topic Index for Chiropter reports it as 12:19 pm) I responded to message #75 by Phatboy. I used the usual "reply to this specific message" button.
{Added by Adminnemooseus - I also see the 12:19 pm at the index. At the topic page itself, I see 2:14 pm as the posting time of message 76. I've checked, and both Chiroptera and I are using eastern U.S. time zone values, so there shouldn't be any time value conflicts between what we each see. Message 76, at 12:19 pm, overwritten by message 76, at 2:14 pm?} This message has been edited by Adminnemooseus, 04-11-2005 05:22 PM

OK, here's what happened (all times U.S. eastern unless otherwise stated):
4/11/05 12:15 pm - Phatboy posts message 75. 10:18 am (U.S. mountain) = 12:18 pm - Phatboy edits message 1 to change topic title. This process throws the entire topic into some sort of wierd alternate reality for a short period of time. 12:19 pm - Chiroptera posts message 76. Unfortuately, because of the previously mentioned alternate reality, all of the information of the message was then lost to dimension X, leaving only some small trace that Chiroptera had ever posted. 2:14 pm - Dan posts, and the message is sucked into the void left by Chiroptera's departed message. Thus Dan's message becomes message 76. Adminnemooseus
