Depends.
In general the various Canons were set in stone around 200-400AD and have remained stable since then. There was the minor change in the Protestant Canon at the Reformation, but that is one of the few examples.
BUT...
various sects have accepted new books. The Mormons are a good example. Down through history other groups at times accepted other books as Canon, particularly the Gnostic Gospels.
The point is that as much as they would like to claim inerrancy and infallibility, there has NEVER been one universal Canon, and it is unlikely that there ever will be such a critter.
The best they can do is shout "Mine, Mine, Mine" and stick their fingers in their ears to drown out the voices from all the others that have the Absolute Truth® who, like them are shouting "Mine, Mine, Mine".

Re: Let he who without edit, make the first add
Gen 2:4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.
Remember, in the originals (or early copies of originals actually) there are no chapters and verses. It is really just one long run on sentence.
All of the Chapters and Verses were added much later, mostly when the transition was made from scroll to folio. The beginning of Genesis 2 to the middle of 2.4 is actually the end of Genesis 1. It is only there that the words used, the descriptions of GOD and other indicators change.

Re: Fundies believe in No Christ but My Christ
Nothing has ever been lost from the Bible.
Isn't that kinda hard to say since there is no such thing as "the Bible"?
There are quite a few Canon and there is lots of variation between them. IIRC the Samaritan Canon includes only the first five books of the Old Testament. The Ethiopian Canon includes Enoch and others while the Western Canon excludes them. The Protestant Canon moves book from in the Bible into the Apocrypha and in addition, we don't have a clue what ANY of the original manuscripts said.

Re: Could be is not an argument
Actually the Samaritan Bible has 5 books, the Ethiopian Bible has 81 books, the Nestorian New Testament has 22 books while the Western New Testament has 27 books and the Ethiopian New Testament has 35 books in its broad Canon but 27 in its narrow canon.
That seems to imply that that there really is no "Bible".

Re: Could be is not an argument
And the tests I have mentioned have been applied many times to authenticate the canon and text we have in the Bible today.
Which canon?
Which texts?
Which Bible?

Re: Could be is not an argument
Or Enoch and First Adam and Eve since almost all of the concepts of Satan and his Fall seem to come from those two.
AbE:
The other thing I always find somewhat humerous is that so many take the quote "All Scripture" to mean the Bible, which of course, didn't even exist at the time and so was NOT what they were refering to.
Edited by jar, : note on "Scripture"

what is Scripture?
Thank you.
But to head back towards the topic, what would you say "Scripture" is?
It seems obvious to me that it is NOT the Bible. First, there are several canons and in addition, all of the canons postdate the references to Scripture in the Bible itself.
During the time such references were made there were many other tracts being read and discussed. The book of Enoch or First and Second Adam and Eve as well as many other Gospels and an unknown number of Epistles.
Would the concept of Scripture point to anything written that one can learn from? Would, for example, it be reasonable to consider Origin of Species or the writings of CS Lewis as scripture?
Edited by jar, : fix sub-title
