I concur with Dr. A. The present subthread is fascinating and all, but it doesn't really belong in this here thread.

Michele Bachmann has endorsed ... uh ... Michele Bachmann, describing herself as "the perfect candidate".
I guess that's why God wanted her to run. Being perfect himself, he can recognize this quality in others. Sadly, it seems that Republicans are a little slower on the uptake. This is exactly why God should be allowed to vote.

Once again Id like to re-iterate my question. Why is it that your politics SEEM so black/white. Ive just read a few comments from cbsnews website regarding Sanitoriums victories and Im...baffled.
The amount of hate and distortion that is shown not just towards Pres. Obama but to other GOP candidates is unbelievable and I reckon that cbs aint nowhere near the worst. Id venture a guess that not one mainstream politician in Europe is as far right as your Dems yet rhetorics like marxist, communist etc. fly all over. Is it the "curse" of bi-party system? Does the inner coherency require vilification of the other and more or less describing the other as evil

Ive just read a few comments from cbsnews website regarding Sanitoriums victories and Im...baffled. Let me help you put it in context. In Minnesota, where I'm from, 50,000 of the state's 5 million people participated in the primary (actually I think it was a caucus, I'm not sure). In 2008, Minnesota gave 1.2 million votes to McCain, which means that something on the order of about 5% of Minnesota's Republicans bothered to participate in the primary. It doesn't actually count for anything because it doesn't allocate any delegates. So you're looking at an election whose sole participants were the Republican party's most motivated voters. Everybody else stayed home because it was a completely meaningless exercise. Is it as surprising, now, that the most motivated voters turn out to be the ones who have the most extreme ideology?
Id venture a guess that not one mainstream politician in Europe is as far right as your Dems yet rhetorics like marxist, communist etc. fly all over. Sure, but in America, comparing the state of our politics to that of other nations (as in Europe, etc) is something only Democrats do. Republicans, in general, think you European types are all Draculas or some shit, I don't even know.

You are mostly seeing the extreme views. The crazies are more outspoken than the rest of the population.

That is probably correct.
Is it the "curse" of bi-party system?
No, it is mostly racism. There's nothing in Obama's positions that is a problem for most Americans. However, those who are racist have to paint Obama as being some sort of extremist. They can't just complain that he is black, because such overt racism is not acceptable today. So their egos demand that they distinguish themselves from Obama in other ways. Accusing him of being a left extremist seems to be what they have settled on. But, as a result, they find themselves forced to support insanely rightist positions to contrast themselves with Obama. For myself, I am enjoying it as entertainment. It does look as if the Republican party might self-destruct over this.Jesus was a liberal hippie

Then one day in the mail came a prescient, pre-election issue of The Nation, featuring the cover below. At first I dismissed it, but then I did indeed begin to worry--rightly, as it turned out.
Never underestimate the ability of the American people to vote against their own best interests, and never underestimate the power of the Democratic coalition to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory."If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you can collect a lot of heads."

MN is pretty much the only hands-on experience I have on the US. Aeons ago I spent a summer there and liked it a lot. Then again I was 18 then so little did I know or could tell by the way people behaved or spoke. Theres a lot I only understood later. Anyway, the more Ive learnt the more I "hate" the way neo-cons have taken the country I fell almost in love with hostage. I sincerely hope Prez Obama gets 2nd term because hes made it easier to like "you" for what you really are - a generous and friendly nation filled with hope and innovation.

So, Santorum won Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri.
Note that the Missouri vote is non-binding, they're going to hold a caucus later which will actually allocate delegates. Santorum said he believes "that conservatives are beginning to get it that we present the best opportunity to beat President Obama." And Santorum is, clearly, completely mad. How hard is it going to be for Obama to run against a man so right-wing he wants a ban on contaception? If it was legal I'd donate to his campaign.

If it was legal I'd donate to his campaign. Doesn't he have a totally-not-coordinating-in-any-way SuperPAC? I thought everyone did these days. No legal restrictions on those at all.The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it. - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

I don't. On the other hand, I only have one vote and I intend using that sensibly. In the meantime, I can enjoy the entertainment.Jesus was a liberal hippie

Oh well, if they're not going to co-ordinate with him then what's the point of donating to them? Why, they might run an ad saying that he's a drooling moron. I wouldn't want that. It would be a complete waste of my money.
