Textbook case of quote mining staring NoNukes. Wrong. My characterization of your post was dead on. According to your post, which described "suffering through" southern states, and then emphasized the count that Bernie had absent the southern states conveyed exactly the message I attacked in my post. I have yet to see any explanation of why your statements, placed in any context, are justifiable.
My point is that from the beginning, the media has assured us that Hillary has a "500" delegate lead" and "can't be stopped". Then you made a bad point on your way to trying to make your point. I could say the same thing about the media telling us about Bernie winning 8 of 9 tiny states as being some threat to Hilary despite the fact her performance so far has been pretty much as expected. Yes there has been some over hyping of Hilary and some media favoring of her over Bernie, but talking about 11 losses in southern states as though that kind of performance is somehow excusable or not worthy of comment is simply wrong. It certainly does not make your point about any media excesses or downplaying of Bernie. It was just bogus. Bernie appeals to people whose mindsets are most like my own. But the fact that such appeal is not sufficient to win the democratic primary is not much of a surprise to me. Nor is it much of a surprise that the Democratic establishment feels the same way. There was just a Pew poll that showed that 45% of Bernie supporters and 38% of Trump supporters felt that our international involvement made the world worse. Only 28% of Hillary supporters did The nation was 34%. (60% on the opposite end) Hillary supporters are more hawkish than the national average. The response is not solely about wars. In fact some of the people who complain about Obama complain about his failure to fight wars. This particular question may be more nuanced than you are letting on. I'm not saying that Hilary supporters are not more hawkish, but this question may not probe that directly. The sooner people understand what a political party really is the sooner this conspiracy tripe can end. Given this reality, I think it is interesting to think about what the GOP might do at the convention if Trump falls short of 1200 delegates. Is it really a forgone conclusion that the GOP would pick Cruz given the ability to avoid Trump? How much of the party actually embraces Cruz? Is the answer none of the Senate, only the tea party faction of the House, and a paltry few Governors? Just how did the GOP allow their house to get into such an order? What is it with the hard questions? Sorry about that. Here is a softball question. Just what is accomplished by picking Fiorina as a running mate? Just what constituency does that tap into? Softball, huh? Well, no. I was being sarcastic because I know you really want the tough questions. I think Carly was picked primary to try to generate some Ted Cruz buzz on a news day that would otherwise would have been dominated by stories about Ted getting his butt whooped in five states. Any actual uplift to his campaign will be pure incidental. I note that many commentators feel this way. NPR interviewed reporters from both the Washington Times and the Washington Post, and the feeling of both reporters was that Ted was pulling off a stunt. When Ted first announced his candidacy there were moans and groans throughout the party. They wished it wasn't so. Well, you gotta be careful what you wish for. The way to have opposed Ted and Trump was to provide some better candidates. Should I conclude that the Republican party had a dearth of qualified clients? I think not. Instead the GOP created a situation where next to none of the qualified candidates were acceptable to the electorate. No moderates had any chance of being elected. Is it then that surprising that we ended up with a choice between Cruz and Trump? Edited by NoNukes, : No reason given. Maybe Hillary can convince Sanders to be her running mate I think there are plenty of opportunities for Hilary to pick out a helpful running mate. In fact, if Bernie cannot win, I would prefer to see Bernie end up with a cabinet position from which he can actually contribute than to have him stuck in limbo land. Most vice presidents seem to spend their time in office trying to find a useful hobby. Many if not most vps end up having less impact than the first lady. After Hillary's first term it will be interesting to see if the Republicans have learned anything from this disaster. What did they learn from 8 years of Obama hating? I remember the supposed debriefing sessions after Obama's re-election that uncovered tons of ways for the GOP to do better. Eventually they concluded that the best strategy was to double down on the losing tactics lest they become RINOs. No compromising with democrats, fight Obama at every turn, and continue to dismiss blacks and Hispanics in an attempt to hold the same base that has been losing elections while getting smaller for a decade. Well that base seems to like Trump and Cruz, primarily because the leaders in the GOP don't like them. Despite Trump getting the highest voting percentages ever recorded he still doesn't even have as many votes as George W Bush. Nor is he sure to reach the 1237 target. Why is that? Ahhh yes voterless victories for Cruz. Perhaps those alternative news sources are a bit slow today. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. And considering what Trump has said about Hispanics and Latinos, Maybe. But Latinos are not a monolithic block, and in particular Cubans tend to be more conservative than South and Central American folks. Also, with respect to illegal immigration, Cubans are not on the agenda. Is there even such thing as a Cuban illegal immigrant[1]? [1]Mostly tongue in cheek... I believe the main decider will be my home state of Florida. Last election it was the Ohio result that caused Karl Rove to undergo an apoplectic fit on national TV. Clinton is actually tied at 38% against Trump in Democratic leaning Virginia. (in Presidential years, Virginia is Democratic) Over the last four elections, Virginia has gone to democrats twice and republicans twice. So when you say that it is democratic in presidential years that means what exactly? Barack won North Carolina in his first election and lost it in the second election. I am not going to dispute a single poll with you. But let's consider that Trump is now running alone while Clinton has yet to get Sanders put away. Neither candidate has picked a running mate. Finally I would suggest taking a peek at what is required for Republicans and Democrats to win a general election. As long as you are futzing around about margins in North Carolina and Virginia, you are talking about zip point diddly. Barack was very competitive in NC even in that second election but ultimately he ended up about where Hillary is polling right now. Bernie got his but totally kicked in North Carolina. Actually, I'm really glad you want to go back (almost) to the last century. Though not for the same reasons I suppose. Uh, I cited a history of just four elections.
Bernie got his butt kicked in the Democratic primary, thus contradicting your picture of a divided party. Surely you are not making that argument which is essentially saying that Bernie is not even a contender. You are bouncing up and down with each poll result. Clinton is winning, now she is losing, now she is winning but not by enough etc. Chill a bit. There is lots of stuff to get through over the summer. We both know that eventually Clinton will receive a chunk of Sanders support. We might even end up with a Clinton Sanders ticket. And yes, Trump is in consolidating support among republicans. No question about that. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison.
