Try evidence, you might even like it.
You might post even one example of the evidence.

Re: Why is it always the Environment versus the Economy?
You wanted some more information so here is a small example.
California passed legislation mandating increased fuel economy and lower emission for new cars to be sold in the State. The manufacturers agreed that they could meet those limits and in fact use the California Standard for cars to be sold nationwide.
The utterly brain dead and stupid Trump Administration is trying to rescind the States right to set pollution and fuel economy limits for cars sold the the State and is also attempting to sue the automakers for agreeing to the California Standards.
The many is utterly stupid, immoral and without any redeeming features.

Apparently there simply couldn't be a rational argument for Trump's position of course, he's just braindead, stupid, immoral and beyond redemption, so I'm not going to get an explanation from you.
Oh the explanation is really pretty simple. Trump is a petty playground bully who has been embarrassed by the State of California and so has a teenagers hard-on. This is just another example of his childishness.

If such a threat is real why the lack of serious, really serious, attempts to prepare for it and prepare people for it
Because many folk are quite simply totally out of touch with reality and prefer to remain that way.
But regardless, reality WILL win.

some less painful steps the US could take.
Double the fuel economy of the cars on our roads over the next ten years.
Begin the plan to move about 120+ MILLION people away from the coastal US and relocating the resources and infrastructure and jobs over the next 20 years.
Build a water reserve equal to two years consumption.
Move agriculture off the land and into hydroponic factories.
Build wind farms, solar farms and neighborhood micro-nuclear generating plants.
Pass zoning laws requiring all homes within 250 year flood plains to be built at least 12 feet above ground or five feet above highest recorded flood stage whichever is lowest.
Pass zoning laws that disallow rebuilding homes in areas that get flooded unless they are raised to at least five feet above highest recorded water level.
Pass a carbon tax bill.
Pass a tax based on income that will be set aside into a Social Security type fund to help mitigate losses from global warming.

Re: some less painful steps the US could take.
That's a very high probability; for example water is essential to life and the US in particular has already wasted the vast majority of our potential availability. We simply have no way to build the reserves we need or to even maintain our current usage. And we ain't got many if any options. We can hope for desalination but to build that infrastructure we would need several generations and it's unlikely we have enough water to last that long.

Re: some less painful steps the US could take.
If you reject any part of the list it will fail Faith. What I outlined is absolute minimal efforts that will possibly at least allow many to survive; but certainly not enough to allow us to prosper.
Faith, the US and much of the world is simply up shit creek without a paddle; they simply missed the opportunities to do things that needed to be done thirty or fifty years ago.
It may well be too late.
It's time to be afraid, very very very afraid.

Fear is a necessity!
Wind and Solar are the only possible options available within the time possible.

Re: Water conservation
Actually no, it does not even touch replenishing the supplies.
Our primary source for water is the various aquifers and it takes tens of thousands of years to replenish them. We have been pumping so much water out of those sources that whole cities are sinking and the aquifers themselves becoming poisoned by salt water intrusion.
Faith, this is not news. It's been widely reported for at least forty years and if it's news to someone it's because they chose to remain ignorant.
Water from snow pack ends up doing damage and in the Gulf of Mexico. Sure a very small amout recharges a few reservoirs but the vast majority ends up as floods or simply draining into the seas.
Thinking "all it takes is a big winter to replenish the supplies" is simply stupid.

Re: The cognitive dissonance
We did. We spread the word, pleaded for Congress to take action, Pleaded for better use of water and to use less fossil fuels and all of you simply stuck your collective heads up your asses and said, nope, ain't doing nuttin.

Re: Wind and Solar problems.
Stop listening to the lies from the Fossil Fuel cult and nut jobs.
Actually look at some wind turbines in motion and see just how slowly the blades are really turning. Go to a solar farm and see just how much heat is being radiated back out into space. Stop and think.
Birds are simply the canary in the cage; they are a visible warning. What is threatening them as with almost every other species is global warming; chemical poisoning and destruction of habitat.

a few steps
Some things that would help mitigate some of the pain we WILL suffer.
Immediately remove the limit on Social Security Taxes. The Social Security Tax should be withheld on every dollar earned and from both personal income and corporate profits. The money should be segregated and made untouchable except for pensions, health care, disability income and personal non-corporate Climate Change remediation.
Immediately move to a single payer health care system.
Nationalize marijuana cultivation and synthetic production and make the products freely available through neighborhood medical clinics.
Tear down the wall.
Set fines on any municipalities that suffer water leaks amounting to more than 2% of average monthly consumption with the penalties doubling in any consecutive months.
Reduce pumping from aquifers for agricultural or industrial use by 10% each year under the prior year total.
Fine municipalities who do not pass zoning restrictions to require mandating flood tolerant construction.
Immediately stop any new construction either in coastal flooding areas or in any areas flooded during the prior half century that is not flood tolerant construction.

"Climate trolls?" You mean vermin like the Jews in Hitler's germany?
I did not use the term Climate Trolls but no, they are not like the Jews in Germany but rather just like the Corporations that gladly built the Death Camps and Incinerators and Poison Gas and that gladly used the slave labor and enjoyed the properties stolen from the Jews.
And of course you have the right to be stupid; I already said that in the very post to which you are replying.
