anastasia writes: So, if my sister calls 15 people and plans a party for my baby. whom she believes is about to celebrate a birthday, she has no excuse for her 'lie'? Of course not.
I am talking about people who believe. But the topic is not about just "beliefs". It's about things that can be verified.
... if my sister hears from another sister that she is wrong, she may still 'believe' she is right. But she still hasn't done her homework. She could call you, the baby's mother, to verify the facts.
In the end, party happens, based on a lie, but it does no harm for anyone involved. So, no harm no lie. Is that your story?

I confess I do not understand your intentions. In every thread you seem bent on playing 'The Bible Says', except, um, in the morality threads.

(It's amazing how little Bible understanding the Bible thumpers have. Too much thumping and not enough reading, I guess.) And this is a morality thread. Bishop Walter Sullivan of Richmond, VA, called the statements "outrageous" and "reprehensible." Sullivan, in a letters to pastors and pastoral coordinators, to the Richmond Times Dispatch, etc. wrote: "Reverend Falwell's claims are an absolute offense to our Jewish sisters and brothers. They deserve our strictest rejection, rebuttal and condemnation." (Falwell) "recklessly targets the Jewish people as the fountainhead of evil itself." Is this more of what you are looking for?

I suppose I am having a dilemma about who exactly is a 'fellow christian'. Anyone who claims to be a Christian, claims to speak as a Christian, is a Pastor, Priest or Minister of a Christian Church or who is perceived as a Christian. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

I suppose I am having a dilemma about who exactly is a 'fellow christian'. I've seen you explain in other threads that "catholic" means "universal" - that the "Catholic Church" encompasses all Christians (whether they want to be encompassed or not ). Why would you start excluding when the time comes to do something for them? Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. No obligation. Join the World Community Grid with Team EvC

You can't prove that any of these were intentional or willful lies. "Judge and you shall not be judged" is the Jesus way. We fundies get accused of judging others. This shows that folks of all viewpoints point the finger of judgement when in fact they can't prove whether an honest mistake or a willful lie. I don't think Falwell would willfuly lie about Flint. I don't know whether the SD press got their story right for sure either so I choose to give the benefit of the doubt just as I would with you or anyone else before making spurilous judgements.

The Bible is the inerrant ... word of the living God. It is absolutely infallible, without error in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as well as in areas such as geography, science, history, etc. -- Jerry Falwell, Finding Inner Peace and Strength The bible is the inerrant...word of the living God. It is absolutely infallible, without error in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, etc... Awesome, just Awesome!!!! Science is only confirming the bible to be infallible the earth does revolve around the sun as genesis 1: says it does by the zodiac seasons, years. Science proved the earth is a sphere that the Lord sits on the circle of the earth(satelights sitting in orbit on the circle of the earth). Sediments are layered over the entire planet in agreement with the biblical flood. The fossil record confirms the biblical flood in that all life essenses on the surface of the earth was destroyed (its called the fossil record). Genetists have confirmed the bible was right that it takes 10 generations before the genetic mistakes are purged from the gene pool are not expressed. Oceanographers have confirmed there are indeed springs on the bottom of the ocean, ocean currents, the east winds, etc... Astronomers have confimed that the universe is indeed spreading out (expanding) as the bible said before we knew if it was expanding or crunching, etc...
The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country. -- Rev Jerry Falwell, Sermon, July 4, 1976 Separation of church and state according to jefferson was to exclude the atheists believes from being the states mandated beliefs. Its an end run by the devil to force infidels standards not the founding fathers standards. Edited by Charley, : No reason given. Edited by Charley, : No reason given. All I can say my friend is that I hope folks allow you more leeway than you are allowing this good man when it comes to charges of lying when imo it would be more Christian to simply put it that you are in disagreement with his positions or that he could be mistaken in good faith. So many totally discount all the good that people like this man has done in things like making more productive and morally sound citizens out of young folks, renewing the wayward and supporting the oppressed around the world, providing a retirement haven for seniors et al. I say let God be the judge when all's said and done unless some very egregious crime or immoral act has been commited bringing shame on Christ and the Christian community of Liberty University. We all have faults, make mistakes and have widespread disagreements on views. Anyhow, 'nuf said. I've likely missed your point again which I've not quite figured if it wasn't that Falwell is allegedly a blatant liar for Jesus.

Given those examples, then most preachers have lied at one point or another.
Unfortunately it is very difficult to call a preacher on lying whether for Jesus or otherwise. It is almost viewed as sacrilegious to accuse a preacher of lying, even if there is proof in black and white. Which is why I think emotions or loyalty, concerning Percy's comment in Message 139, play a part in why political and religious are not ousted for lying, but the scientist is. A scientist works with data. If he falsifies the data, all scientists can see. It's all about the data. Religion and politics are about perception, emotion, loyalty. People get attached to the people for whatever reason. I can have evidence on paper that a preacher has lied and is stealing. I can take that information to the elders to no avail. I can take the information to the district office, to no avail. They weigh the offense against the good they feel the preacher has accomplished or how much the preacher has done for them. But they never fix the problem. I've seen churches split, because a group of members see the problem with the preacher and the rest don't. Eventually after no agreeable resolution those who see the problem leave. So I feel that people do speak out, but emotions determine the outcome and not necessarily facts. I see it this way:
Science method: Here is the hypothesis: Let's see if we can dig up enough facts to declare it a scientific theory. Creationist method: Here is the hypothesis: Let's see if we can dig up enough facts to lend credibility to it, being fully aware that no matter how much we dig up the scientific community will debunk it. CREATIONISTS ARE LIARS, PARTICULARLY THE BIBLICAL FUNDAMENTALISTS! So just ignore the musslim extremeists?
BTW, I don't think that cleaning house will ever happen. People will always manage to be bad, and claim they are Christian.

Extend that to groups as well as to individuals. "Why beholdest thou the mote that is in the Muslim's eye or the Hindu's eye, but considerest not the beam in the Christian's eye?" Well then that is precisely the reason people have a hard time protesting against anyone then, isn't it?
