But ice shelves are attached, aren't they? And therefore if the water rises, covering the glaciers, the shelves will most likely break off and form icebergs. So do you mean icebergs?

Actually Rrhain, it appears the ice worms live up to six feet deep in the ice and eat red algae! Who knew?

I believe Crash is referring to hot springs - which come up from the earth's interior - which is what appears to be implied by 'fountains of the deep.'
Not the cool mountains springs you'd find on a nice hike.
