Topic then, would it be a boring existence being a God, given that you know everything that is going to happen, and you are capable of doing anything that you want to.
God created the universe out of boredom and then created people with free will, thus giving up omniscience. Now he's entertained. Life is a game.

Re: God's game
I don't see the connection, why would free will lead to God losing His omniscience?
The fork in the road. You have free will. You can go left or right.
God doesn't know which way you will choose, because you have free will.

He gave up his omniscience, just as He gave up His only begotten Son.

Re: God's game
You really do think God gave up his omniscience and that Jesus' cry "Why have you forsaken me?" shows that?
He gave up His only begotten son. Otherwise, the story makes no sense. Ransomed.

Re: God's game
You've lost me RR. Too cryptic for me
There is nothing cryptic about what I said. God the father sacrificed his only begotten son. I'm sure you've heard of that before. At that moment, he was separated from the father.

Re: God's game
What does that have to do with God's giving up his omniscience?
God became human. That is the Christian message. When one becomes human, you give up some stuff, such as omniscience.

Re: God's game
But as I understand the creeds and confessions, God didn't give anything up of His own attributes.
Faith, in order to sacrifice one has to give up something. This is some serious stuff, and I am not perhaps prepared to discuss it at this moment, but the power of the Christ-story comes from the sacrifice: the nails through the hands.

Re: Jesus died, so what?
IMHO, the real sacrifice was not Jesus death, but GOD becoming man with all the limitations that implies. Jesus really was man, human. Jesus could not know the future, could not know he would be resurected, experienced everything any other man experiences, pain, hunger, lust, desires, sorrow, joy, getting drunk with friends, a great party and karioke.
While Jesus walked among us, he was MAN.
That was the sacrifice.
Yes. If not, the story doesn't make much sense.
When Jesus asked somebody a question, he did so to find out the answer. Otherwise, he would be merely toying with everyone.

Re: Holy Ghost Writer
I think free will is an illusion created because the brain, complex as it is, nonetheless can't keep track of the complexity of itself and all the influences acting on it.[
Our society--all societies--are based on the concept of free will.
Free will is a given in all human endeavors.

Re: Free will as explanatory fiction for legal control
And myself and a handful of others disagree that there is free will.
Yes, and one might assert that we have no eyes--we only think we do. We don't actually "see" things; what we do is mentally project the outside world. To me, that view is on the same level as asserting that we have no free will.

The Lucky God
He's God "by birth", he didn't earn it. He just got to be the superior being by pure luck
Rank hath its responsibilities. It's lonely at the top.

Re: Free will as explanatory fiction for legal control
Are you saying that we do have free will, or that it's impossible to know?
I'm saying that it is impossible to conceive of our not having free will.
