Bible or God
You use the Bible and God as interchangeable.
Paul does not claim that God is speaking through him.
Paul is an evangelist.
Jesus as the messiah would be the next authority after God.
Paul doesn't claim that Jesus is speaking through him.
Mark 10:17-21
As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his kees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone. You know the commandments: Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother."
"Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy."
Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
Jesus pretty much sumed it up.
The author of Matthew added: Love your neighbor as yourself.
So the question is:
Does Paul have the authority to change or add to what Jesus supposedly said?
If we do not follow Paul's interpretations or additions, do we truly miss the mark?

Holy Spirit
Hey riVeRrat,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to continue our discussion. I found it interesting. I did have thoughts to share, but it was closed by the time I got back to it.
Anyway, the verse you quoted in this thread about the one sin that can never be forgiven:
quote:
Matthew 12:32
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
Have you ever heard anyone speak against the Holy Spirit?
Just curious, because I don't think I ever have.
Take care

Re: Holy Spirit
I realize we are getting off topic here, but I may have seen it mentioned within this forum. In my normal daily dealings though, I don't recall anyone.
I do agree that knowledge or explanation of the Holy Spirit is lacking. I'm not sure all the clergy understand it. Hard to explain something that can't be seen.
Even though I no longer function within organized religion and don't feel that Jesus was a deity, I don't feel that I have lost what I considered to be the Holy Spirit during my time within the church.
Take care

Re: Holy Spirit
I would say it is what helps me discern right behavior.
