So, believing bananas grow on trees, & that they grow upwards is a religion? It's a set of beliefs, isn't it, the difference is, this is evidence based, not faith based.
If this is your definition of religion, it hardly poses a problem for evolution. Evolution is evidence based, christianity is faith based, regardless of how you try to twist the meaning of religion.
I "believe" the earth rotates in an easterly direction. I believe the sun is a star made of mainly hydrogen & helium, using the phenomena of nuclear fusion to form heavier elements. Oh what a religious chap I am!
You are a victim of your own ridiculously narrow definitions, you have made practically everything a religion, & it matters not, it is a moot point. There are still beliefs that are faith based, & beliefs that are evidence based. Have it your way, I'll go with the evidence based "religion", evolution.

Damn, I was off to the natural history museum to do some praying, guess evolution isn't religion after all!

But by your definition, soccer is a religion, since it fits point 3. "activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion."
So, tell me, do you really think soccer is religion? Personally, I think to do something "religiously", is comparing to a true religions activity, rather than by definition be religious in its own right.
I repeat, is all science religion, then?
