This is a ridiculous, illogical leap, (or perhaps a quote out of context) - that if genes are selfish, that the organism will be individually selfish.
​
Quite the opposite is predicted by evolution - that in social animals, "selfish" genes will survive by producing "socially responsible" characteristics. (Though one could argue these "unselfish" characteristics have arisen for "selfish" reasons.)

You've never heard a doctor say that?

First - the only place I've heard a doctor use those words is on fictional television shows and in the movies. In any case our personal anecdotal experience do not serve the discussion.

Even if a real doctor does say those words, is that proof that the doctor believes in God?

Not necessarily - those words may be used to give comfort and hope to a patient who believes in God.
