The most compelling reason for not believing in a god or gods is the knowledge that people will believe anything if you prime them enough.
We all feel sensation of joy and love or anger and fear at times in our lives and sometimes these feelings are very hard to cognitivley associate with real world stimulus.
When faced with this we fall back on our best guess and if we have been in some way primed to erroneous concepts during our lives we can make an erroneous conclusion.
As said conclusions are often imposible to disprove we go through life under the impression that these deeply held concepts are in fact true.
We attend to information that confirms our beliefs and forget that whic conflicts with our belief.
This is the confirmation bias.
So it is science of psychology and the fact that we are prone to various cognitive distortions that lead to erroneous conclusions (which I see borne out every day in practice) that lead me to believe that the bible is not the word of the xian god.
Please keep responses in relation to the Bible and not belief in God(s).

Is it impossible for these to be disproven given that you are wearing psychologist tinted spectacles now?
No it is not impossible to disprove scientific concepts, thats the whole point of science.
Iano writes:
How does a psychologist demonstrate to himself that he isn't suffering from confirmation bias?
By using the scientific methodology. Bias is a huge concept in statistical research which is a huge part of psychology. Many checks are in place to reduce bias as much as is possible.
