Great Expectations
This was on Comcast News:
Atop Obama's challenge list is the global and domestic turmoil that he inherits. None of it is his own making, but it will shape his presidency before he lifts one finger.
The worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Two wars in unstable, hostile lands. Other foreign hot spots such as Pakistan and Congo, nuclear standoffs with North Korea and Iran. A warming planet.
Then there are high health care and energy costs, sunken home values, wiped-out retirement and investment accounts. A federal deficit that is exploding as the nation throws money at its economic problems, sure to crimp Obama's ability to spend his way to solutions.
He also faces challenging political realities.
Obama has a largely liberal voting record and owes a debt to the left wing of the Democratic Party, which mobilized millions on his behalf. These folks embraced his promises to end the Iraq war, move toward universal health care coverage and address harsh terrorist interrogation practices.
First, let me address your list, Buzsaw.
Buzsaw writes:
1. Forced unionism.
Phat writes:
Nothing wrong there. If folks don't want to be union, they should not apply at union companies.
2. Socialized medicine.
Phat writes:
We need this one, although perhaps in a hybrid form more friendly to our economic ways.
3. Weaker smaller military.
Phat writes:
Smaller, yes. Weaker? I don't think it will happen. We will keep up dated with the latest technology. We just need to quit selling the old stuff to other folks!
4. Paramilitary civilian government controlled services required upon every young person.
nonsense.
5. So called (miss called) Fairness Doctrine essentially eliminating right wing talk shows in the media, highly expanding what is regarded as hate speech.
no...we will always have free speech. Folks may, however, be held accountable for what they say if it harms others.
6. Increased Jihadist terrorism by terrorists who supported the Obama presidency.
We will see terrorism, but thats the spoil sports who despise free market capitalism. They will always be riled up over our power!
7. Further undermining of the sovereignty of Israel.
Yes...Israel will need to be on its own, and I fear that this may cause a future war, since we would never directly stop them.
8. Increased energy costs.
inevitable.
9. Excessive high coal standards which will essentially put the coal mines out of business.
10. Expansion of the EPA's influence to the point of more dependence of foreign energy.
11. Severe depression as the result of regulation and high taxes on business and the well to do who provide the jobs as they choose to close up rather than to comply.
If they want to horde their wealth, they will be judged by that decision.
12. Expansion of regulations on businesses.
13. Wider open boarders and expansion of rights etc to illegal aliens.
14. Highly expansion of UN powers over nations and diminishment of sovereignty of nations.
Yes, I worry about that darn U.N. also.
15. Billions of American $$ more committed to UN welfare for third world nations, including oppressive governments.
Not if the people won't put up with it!
16. Reduction of freedom of religion via the Fairness Doctrine and other government regulations.
17. Totally leftist Supreme Court and circuit courts etc which essentially permanently embeds America into socialism and the leftist agenda relative to all aspects of life.
The court is becoming more centered now. It will be neither Left or Right.
18. Expansion of anti-gun laws.
19. Phenomenal expansion of Federal government power/control and diminishment of state and local government control.
Thats my take on it.

Re: Repeating history
Petro, here in Colorado, I noticed all of the sanctimonious church folk who supported McCain because he allegedly was against abortion. They are all liars, because the fact is, you folks just don't want to let go of some of your "hard earned" cash to fix the problems that your greed got us all into!
Maybe I do need to grow up, but were I one of your kids, I am sure you wouldn't leave me a dime anyway!
The people have spoken and its time for the Dems to have another go at it! We need a two party system, or we would all be jackbooting down the street self righteously waving the stars and stripes and further alienating a world who will go on without us if we don't change.
