DNS woes
Over the last few days, I have several times noticed delays or failures in evcforum access, due to DNS lookup failures. At present, I am unable to lookup the IP address of either or using my ISP's DNS server or using my own caching DNS server. From my office machine, I was able to lookup but not (apparently the first happened to be in cache).
For the moment, I have added an entry to "/etc/hosts" - otherwise I would be unable to access the site to post this message.

Just say no to McCain 2008; he abandoned principle when he caved on habeus corpus

Hey, AdminModulous!
Despite what it says on the All Topics list, message #4 in MurkyWater's thread is by gasby, not you.
Just letting you know in case you weren't aware of it.

Re: Hey, AdminModulous!
cheers, I wasn't. It was an impressively constructed on topic response looking at the issue in depth.
Maybe not, but I posted quite a long post there that discussed issue in a way sympathetic to the OP, with some interesting suggestions. I just spend thirty minutes hacking at firefox trying to find any remnants of it. No such luck, I found some old topic headings, but not the main subjects.
The world will have to lament that a great and powerful post of Mods is lost forever. Actually I reckon about as many posts don't get posted of mine as do - but that's a voluntary thing - this one is a naughty software hiccup. It's happened a few times recently and I think it is because jar is no longer propping his end of the bar up.

I'm not recieving the email notifications again.
The uni has done some maintenance on the email server so maybe that has done something?
Brian.

Re: e-mail again
The kicked back email at this end says there's an unrouteable email domain, namely dedicated., which is the name of our server. I recently started using our server as our DNS server, too, and I'm sure this is the cause of the problem, but I can't seem to fix it. The software won't let me set up a reverse pointer for the server. If anyone has any ideas...

Re: e-mail again
Poking about on the Internet suggested adding an MX record, which I did. If they continue to kick back I'll find something else to try.

Attributes for thumbnail dBCode
As best I can tell, the "nocaption" and "nocenter" attributes don't work, but do cause dBCode error problems.

i guess we should have expected this one
looks like everyone who didn't bother to put in their birthdays, or hasn't been here since the upgrade is now showing up at the top of the screen. it's 3 and a half screen-fulls for me.
perhaps there's a way to take less-regular members off the birthday list? maybe make it only show up if they've actually entered something?

Happy New Year birthday boy!
I hope your not wearing your suit.

Re: i guess we should have expected this one
You are right. I tested the theory since AdminPhat was on the long list. I gave him his birthday back and he disappeared
