Why, it's so ubiquitous he can't even find one example.

And ergo you still don't understand their culture. Rice isn't just another dish or food. It is consumed 3 times a day 7 days a week for the typical Asian family. This concept is poorly understood here because we have no such one-food-fits-all thing in our culture. Even their noodles are made from rice. Every Asian family I know has a pot of steaming hot rice ready to go all the time.
edit Regarding gay marriage, I've no good thing to say about the current situation. It is absolutely a shame that we need to rely on court ruling to uphold equal rights instead of a majority vote. Where the fuck is the so-called silent majority that the liberal christians have been telling me about? Do you guys still deny that religion causes people to hate? I have reality to back me up. Every major church is fighting equal rights as we speak. Even some pro-gay rights pastors I've met don't want gay marriage to happen. Edited by Taz, : No reason given.

Unless we're talking about throwing rice at a gay wedding, I don't see how this is on topic.

I was trying to point out that the liberal commie crowd while being politically correct is inadvertently being offensive to some people.
Some of the most liberal people I know still avoid the word gay or the mention of someone being gay like if its a bad thing. Just like thinking there's something wrong with eating rice.

Maybe you can find a thread dedicated to "liberal commie" bashing and take it there, m'kay?

Fine, then lets talk about gay marriage. It seems to me like the liberal commie crowd is perfectly happy with having gay marriage legalized through the courts when the overwhelming majority still make it clear by their votes that they hate gay people. The liberal commie crowd keeps telling me there is the silent majority kind hearted Christian group out there. Yet I've never seen any evidence of this.

it's time to get into semantics. Your ignorance is showing. My argument was not an argument of semantics. I provided a link this time as you seem incapable of researching the meaning of words itself. You plain and simply used the wrong word. It is an argument of correct usage of vocabulary. Now if what someone wrote on this forum could in some way be slander, then you would be correct and we would be having an argument about semantics. But what is written here could never be slander it could only be libel. Then again you are incapable of finding any evidence of libel so the point is moot. See definition two in the link. Your arguments would be more respected and less laughable if you would use correct vocabulary. If you are not sure of the meaning of the word it takes a quick search to find the meanings. If you use Firefox there is a search engine toolbar that you can add a dictionary too. I use it a lot when I post here to make sure that the words I use have the actual meaning I think they do. The only problem with ignorance is when you do not want to rectify the ignorance or worse have no interest in rectifying it.Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts

So in other words women should never have been given the right to vote and we should have never outlawed slavery? You do understand the purpose of the courts and the concept of the tyranny of the majority don't you?

The latest Pew Poll shows that Americans are about evenly split on gay marriage (46% favor, 44% oppose, +/- 2.5% margin of error), so I don't think it's accurate to say that the overwhelming majority oppose it. But that's really irrelevant.
The courts exist to protect the rights of everyone, regardless of majority opinion. One benefit of doing it through the courts is that it is not a political decision that can be undone after the next election, as happened in California. I tend to agree with you that I've seen little evidence of this silent majority of kind hearted Christians. On the other hand, the dramatic shift in public opinion regarding the matter in just the last 10 years or so suggests that maybe their hearts weren't really all that hardened either.Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. -- Thomas Jefferson We see monsters where science shows us windmills. -- Phat It has always struck me as odd that fundies devote so much time and effort into trying to find a naturalistic explanation for their mythical flood, while looking for magical explanations for things that actually happened. -- Dr. Adequate ...creationists have a great way to detect fraud and it doesn't take 8 or 40 years or even a scientific degree to spot the fraud--'if it disagrees with the bible then it is wrong'.... -- archaeologist

A: This has to be either a poor attempt at you playing some sort of Devils Advocate or you're trolling. You've always seemed at least somewhat open-minded.
B: Whos gives a shit if there are people that hate gay people? There's still quite a large portion of society that hates niggers too. Should they not be allowed to marry? C: It's not "liberal commies" who say there is a silent majority of kind hearted christians (the liberal/moderate christians, I assume. Correct me if my assumption is off). The people who say that are the ......DING DING DING! Liberal/moderate christians who ARE silent and don't like being lumped in with the likes of The WBC, Jim Jones, Buzsaw etc.."There is no refutation of Darwinian evolution in existence. If a refutation ever were to come about, it would come from a scientist, and not an idiot." -Dawkins

Simply a lie. Please show an overwhelming vote against gay marriage. Not exactly a lie, but perhaps misleading. As far as I can tell, only 2 states have passed legislation allowing same sex marriage without any intervention by courts, Vermont and Washington. Other states that allow it do so only because of court rulings, or by legislation passed after a court ruling. (A number of states allow different kinds of same sex unions offering a variety of the rights accorded to married couples.) In the vast majority of states where a constitutional amendment has been put on the ballot to prohibit gay marriage it has passed. Thus, if we are talking simply about how people vote, it has been against gay marriage. But I suspect that this trend will change as societal attitudes about gay marriage change.Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions.

Here's my take. There's a small minority that "hates gays". The majority are undecided on the issue, with no strong feelings either way. If they are pushed to vote, they will vote against because it is easier to vote against change whose implications you don't fully understand.Jesus was a liberal hippie
