hahah look at your great mighty bears strength in this video, well anyway let me explain just in case you dont kno, this is a sri lankan leopard vs a sloth bear, guess who wins, well anyway i will do a background on both animals and provide it to you
sloth bearBBC - 404: Not Found Body length: 140-190cm, Weight: male: 80-140kg, female: 55-95kg Leopard, Tail length: 60-97cm, Shoulder height: 50-75cm, Weight: 30-80kg. BBC - 404: Not Found ok so the sloth bear is larger and according to u much stronger so it should own the leopard lol watch the video
http://www.arkive.org/species/GES/mammals/Panthera... hahahha it seems the leopard owns the stupid bear, lol ok now i believe u, bears are stronger than similiar sized female sumatran rhinos[ which is the smallest species of rhino, white rhinos are the largest species of rhino, sumatran are the smallest species of rhino]no way a bear is much weaker lb for lb than any rhino, also dont say well a grizzly has a shoulder hump, because white rhinos have shoulder humps to, but obviously we cant compare the white rhino because its way way to large its weight range is 4000-6000lbs, how ever the smallest species of rhino the sumatran rhino can compare, well the smallest sumatran female rhino and the largest kodiak brown bear are nearly the same size and the rhino is much stronger Edited by bcw3, : No reason given. That video doesn't determine anything. There was no contest.
The bear decided it didn't like claws and that it wasn't hungry enough to fight over the carcus. Maybe if it had fought it would have won; maybe not. It had to take a risk of injury even if it did win.

bcw3 writes: and even at equal weights a female Rhino is much stronger than any Bear do you have Sources to back that up?
bcw3 writes: but I think they are stronger lb for lb hmm. So if you THINK, you really dont KNOW then, do yah??
bcw3 writes: You are trying to discredit dave Miquelle You tried to discredit Blaire Van Valkenburgh, who is an expert on mammal Morphology, especially mammalian carnivores (ie, she's a cat expert too, not just ah bear expert) YOu also tried to discredit Mr Seidensticker who wrote the encarta article I posted, who is a curator of mammals at the Smithsonian Zoological center (credentials listed at end of encarta article) What makes you capable of debunking experts instead of me??? bcw3 writes: in terms of upmost strength an ungulate would surpass a Bear Not in upper body strength. And until you post a video of a wild ungulate walking upright like a bear, I wont believe your point at all.
bcw3 writes: so yes all in all the ungulate is much stronger Would you admit they are stronger than tigers and other big cats?? Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Fixed 2nd quote box. "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." Genesis 6:4

So you agree that Bears would have stronger forelimbs than cats and ungulates. I was arguing as such, but also in terms of upper body strength and power. Now Ungulates would outmuscle a bear in ramming force, and Tigers and other cats can leap far, far longer than any bear ie the hind quarters (Tigers and cougars can leap around 40 feet) but then again I've never seen a Cat with legs as thick and sturdy like a Bears, which allow it to not only stand upright, but also to walk a short distance like a man.
An animal that could severly hurt both Grizzlies and big cats would be the Musk Ox. They can hit like a battering ram and deliver a lethal strike. I would say that in terms of ramming strength and body power, Musk Oxen (and ungulates thickly built like them) would be stronger than both Bears and cats. But in terms of upper body strength and leg strength (in terms of leaping (cats)and weight bearing (bears) both cats and bears would be stronger. "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." finally, you got his name right!
I did research on your biologist. I took me forever to find info about him (Dale, not david) but although he does terrific work as a wildlife conservationist (I might join that wcs organization in the future)THere is nothing that I have found on that site that makes him out to be far better in knowledge on comparative mammal morphology and physiology than Blaire Van Valkenburgh and as prominent in the sciences as John Seidensticker. And the way it seems from your posts, he didn't say that a Bears upper body strength is found wanting compared to large ungulates and cats. And plus it is a biological fact that Bears are built more for strength than cats (of course cats dont need that much strength. They are efficient predators the way they are.) bcw3 writes: And like I said the old California extinct bears where 900-1200 lbs far larger than any lion, making it an unfair fight And like I have shown from the California DFG info, they average 300-1200 lbs. It could have been a 500 lb female or subadult boar (female bears are called sows, males ie boars) It did not have to be 900 lbs or above. "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." Some Ungulates may have more overall power/strength than bears of the same size (Musk oxen)but based on the evidence, I dont see cats having more overall strength.
Except for Sabre tooth cats (which where probably as strong as Grizzlies lb for lb)and another sabretooth that I mention in an earlier post. "The Nephilim where in the Earth in those days..." Genesis 6:4

INdeed. bcw3 is forgetting that SlothBears can become so ferocious in a REAL fight that they can drive off hungry Tigers, and that in some places they are feared more than Tigers and other carnivores:
