It was coined by the liberals, as a joke. No, sir, it was not. It was developed by the right to mock the liberal agenda of equality and tolerance. You know, those silly sentiments.

Hi, Schraf. In Indiana and Kentucky and thereabouts, the common usage is kite. Really. According to Wiki, we all have a peg to hang a hat on. The first usage is purportedly the SCOTUS in 1793. Since about 1980, the right has used it as a ridiculing club.

Typical misrepresentation of his motives. What he is doing is affirming the right of students to an education free from ALL political indoctrination in the classroom, both right and left, which right now is heavily, intimidatingly and unethically practiced by many supposed educators and is far and away predominantly leftist. He had no interest in pushing legislation until he found anti-egalitarian leftists resisting his eminently sensible plan to restore intellectual freedom to education. Really? Then he also encouraged left-leaning students to secretly record their right-leaning profs in order to out them? He has been condemned for this sort of...well, commie thought police behavior, actually...by folks on both the left and the right. But I guess not by anyone as far right as you. Wait! I get it! He's a type of Paul! The Great White appeared to him while he was busy urging the Panthers on to greater provocations (like breakfast programs, say), and the Great White said, "Dave! Dude! I have no idea, but I also don't think I'd trust your objectivity. In any case, this doesn't change the fact that calling me "unbelievable" is rude. I think it's a reasonable assessment of the evidence.

I'm surprised you didn't link to David Whorowitz's attacks on right-wing professors. Oh well--that's probably because there are so many.
It's just a matter of simple objective fact that they are rare these days whereas leftists have a freeforall intimidating and ridiculing their students of a conservative persuasion. This is why science fora frustrate you. Who established this "simple objective fact?" What standards did they use to establish it? You just make this stuff up--because your ideological bent tells you it must be so. Objective fact? Prove it. Cite the evidence. Oh, wait. Coffee House. You can make stuff up here, I guess.
Weird idea that a mere student, a mere citizen, can be compared to the KGB. They are trying to OUT the KGB. I think you have things backwards. A network of political partisans put together a plan to secretly record other people expressing their opinion in an attempt to discredit them socially and professionally. Bounties were offered. And it isn't just "the left" that condemned these tactics--just everyone to the left of Attila the Hun. These are the tactics of thug police informers, not a "mere student."

I guess we could recommend that students who are intimidated and graded down for their politically incorrect positions just leave school and let the universities become even more perfect leftist bastions. I guess we could just ignore the evidence and post stupid stuff. So pick your best cases, Faith, the ones where there is no room for doubt, where tons and tons of evidence about left-wing professorial browbeating, etc., will open our eyes. Maybe Robin sees a lot of that down in Texas--ya think? Post that info. Let's take a look at it.

So how about you come up with an example or two of right wing violations in the classroom? They are much rarer. Good luck. I'll look at your links later. But that particular nag is not my hobby-horse. It was your contention that Whorowitz also exposed right wing violations in the classroom, not mine--I was explicitly skeptical of your claim. Nice try, but even while rubbing sleep from my eyes, I won't fall for that kind of rhetorical jujitsu. It was your contention--you support it.
I encountered it in high school in the late 50s already. What were you saying in the all-USA-all-the-time 1950s that led to your intellectual freedom being compromised by a left wing high school teacher? I'm fascinated.
