Re: IRONY ALERT!
If theist are under mental strain due to knowing they can never live up to God's standards one would expect that professed theism does not enhance mental health. In fact, it would likely lead to suicidal tendencies. I can see why their acquaintances would try to portray it as martyrdom since suicide is just another failure to live up to their belief system.

Correction
I should have said that the Mayo Clinic study showed that a religous belief and prayer are totally ineffective in patient health.
Mayo Clinic researchers found that their study of intercessory prayer had no significant effect on patients’ medical outcomes after hospitalization in a coronary care unit.
So it appears that the Mayo study supports the position of the atheists.

Re: correction
1. We have martyrs. Strong proof that theism exist.
Well, actually no. They could just as easily been nationalism or a belief that capitalism was inherently evil. Or just plain nuts.
2. Faith is positively correlated with mental health.
Not at all. In fact the Mayo Clinic Study you cited shows that there is no correlation.
quote:
Mayo Clinic researchers found that their study of intercessory prayer had no significant effect on patients’ medical outcomes after hospitalization in a coronary care unit.
3. Our most vocal leaders do not seem to have the same issues as the militant atheist (Vitz study).
Actually, your most vocal leaders all seem to be liars and bigots.
4. We seem not to suffer with the same degree of self absorbtion which would cause us to repeatedly want to get our way despite the evidence. Utimately this causes wavering since the facts do not line up with reality.
If that were true there would be no Creationists. Creationism certainly does not line up with reality.
Sorry Ken. Just mark this up on the long list of threads where you have been proven wrong. Afterall, why break a perfect record. LOL

Kenny
Would you like to address Hypatia and her murder by Christians?

Re: to: jar
Are you saying that you can seriously come here talking about martyrs and not even be familar with Hypatia of Alexandria?
Can I suggest that you take a break and do a little research on this whole subject and perhaps return once you have a basic understanding of history?

Re: to: jar
I thought I did give evidence. She was a pagan/atheist who was martyred, murdered by Christians.
Seems pretty clear.

Prediction
When Ken get's whomped up on as usually happens he has two tactics. On forums when there is an ignore list he just ignores all the posts that ask questions he can't answer. Since there is nothing like that here he will probably try to get a moderator to ban him so he can slink off and claim he was winning.

Re: to: ALL
Ken, there is still an open question for you in the abiogenesis thread. I would really like for you to tell us what would make a conference upbeat. Will I have to follow you around the net and ask this same question in every thread you participate in? I can if that is what is required.
