Tit for Tat
doctrbill writes:
Do you actually believe that the sun, moon and stars are ensconced in a big, invisible, dome which rolls around in an orbit of earth? Do you actually believe that the sky is blue becuase we are looking up at an infinitely deep body of water? Do you actually believe that the first man was made out of clay and that the first woman was produced by cloning?
Madness,eh? Well Do you actually believe:
  • "Evidence suggests that our universe began as an incredibly hot and dense region referred to as a singularity." Stephen T. Abedon, Ohio State University
  • "The universe had a beginning. There was once nothing and now there is something." Janna Levin, Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University
So, early humans had access to the same God that we have, yet their primative explanations of creation at least included God. Now, in our vaunted intellect, we have decided that God was an archtypical myth.
Claiming to be wise, we will end up as fools.

But I am curious. If the authors of Genesis were wrong about the nature of Nature, then why should we expect them to be right about the nature of God?
IF it is possible to commune/communicate with God, as I believe that I can, THEN it matters not what era in the progression of humanity attempts to do so. Hi Tech Science, with all of their measuring devices, theories, and literature are really no closer than the bronze age goatherder, who in all probability had more time for silence and meditation--

    Earth=Air=Fire=Water
    doctrbill writes:
Well, pretty much all(creation accounts) of which I am aware begin with water, the prime element (according to ancient 'chemistry'). From this element, all others may be derived
    Arachnophilia writes:
a few start with other rather simplistic things. the chinese starts with an egg. some don't start at all, like the hindu myths. some start from previous existance, like the norse myths. but ALOT start from water, next to nothing.
The Bible talks of Spirit as water..
    quote:
John 4:10= Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."
It talks of Spirit as air..
    quote:
John 3:8=The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
It talks of the Spirit as fire...
    quote:
Ex 40:38=So the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel during all their travels. and... 1 Cor 3:13=It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.
Its funny how people scoff when Genesis says that man was made from the dust of the ground.
If the Spirit, which is life, is manifest in air, water, and fire, how hard is it to see that when matter became alive, earth was the source of the body and God was the source of the Spirit?

    Doubting Lam
    Lam writes:
Well, this is a dead end way where you're going. Jesus said to Thomas something like "blessed are those that have not seen but believe..."So, Thomas was awarded with solid evidence but people that have faith are "blessed", whatever that means.
And I respect the fact that you doubt lots of things, Lam! It is what makes you a good forum participant. You have more degrees than boiling water, yet you still spend a lot of time talking with people such as Jar, Chris(porcelain) and I. I am certain that Gods Word was/is divinely inspired, yet we all can say that we doubt the exact meaning behind the translations, can't we? The fact that we choose to be a community of posting brethren seeking answers in intent as well as letter for letter inference shows me that there is Heart in this forum! Thats a Blessing to me, for sure, for sure!
