I've checked Prentice-hall's on-line Catalog - Maybe the book you are talking about is:
The World's History, Combined by Howard Spodek, Temple University Is that the one? It contains sections about the spread of religion but since it had a timeframe of millions of years - I find it very unlikely that it suggests that the exodus happened. Nope - I can find no book that is just called "world History" - got an ISBN number (will be on the title page)?
Sure it's not by a R.Wyatt or someone like that? This message has been edited by Charles Knight, 09-30-2004 05:40 PM

CHRIS PORTEUS jr writes: ... there wasn't much cultural diffusion between the Israelites and the Sumerians. ??? Do you mean to say these two cultures had nothing in common? Of all the cultural influences on ancient Israel, the Sumerian is most notable. The grand patriarch Abraham grew up in Sumerian culture and according to scripture: the patriarchs worshipped Mesopotamian gods. db

Think its:
Prentice Hall World History: Connections to Today1997. 1038 pages. ISBN of the student's edition: 0-13-803271-8. Prentice Hall, 1 Lake Street, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey 07458. Here's a review which accuses the book of being a little too politically correct in the way it panders to all religious sensitivities but doesn't mention the Exodus. PE

Chris
Do us a favor and look at the section that mentions Exodus. Does it say "It happened" or that "Judaic doctrine relates the story of the Exodus?" edited to add: Okay, you answered my question while I was posting. So the book is not saying that it happened, only refering to what the Torah says happened. I thought that would be the case. I think Chris is refering to this:
PHSchool.com Retirement—Prentice Hall—Savvas Learning Company if so I very much doubt that it claims that the exodus happened - look at the section headings. It may discuss the exodus within the context of what christians believe but it does the same for all the other "major religions".

Is it not being established as happening and adding on to this? The exodus is used to describe the formation of the Israelite civilization.

Not at all. It is simply repeating what the Judaic mythology says.

No - that seems to follow the normal standard of general educational history books when dealing with religions - "believed" & "according" to.
