Re: Half-serious ideas
this will also be the result of the gay-marriage votes: they will win the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman
this makes any law that give any benefits to a married couple that is different from any non-married couple unconstitutional
the democrats should have said "marriage definition? we'll go you one better a union blessed by god" and thus it is a church issue for each church to decide. The Mormons can have multiple wives ...
heh.

Re: Yea!
enjoy it while it lasts. hold bush accountable for everything he promised you for your vote.
and OBL got just the result he wanted ... an incompetent bully that has failed to capture him while driving droves of new recruits through his door: his post was to the arabs to say how stupid americans are, how successful he has been
after all if you had to chose between a decorated vet and a stunned wuss in a kids chair which would you want if you were him?
and it looks like he was right.
so enjoy. he is your leader.
it is your dream isn't it?
savor all of it.

love it
JESUS freak writes:
Your people and the media often ignore it, but we found WMD in Iraq, Sarin nerv agent.
actually the media do not ignore this: they report that a lot of bush supporters are under the mistaken belief that WMD were found
you are one of them, you are wrong, mistaken, fooled or foolish and the proof is laid out from your own words.
heh. but don't take my word for it:
http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=16415
According to the 500-man American team that spent hundreds of millions of dollars looking for Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, there aren't any and have not been any since 1991.
similarly many think saddam was linked to the al queda terrorists:
http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?ItemID=17962
It seems the majority of Bush supporters, according to recent polls, still believe Saddam Hussein had ties to Al Qaeda and even to 9-11, ...
you feel safer? you just don't know do you:
http://www.qctimes.com/internal.php?story_id=1037084&t=Op...
Also in the lies/damn lies category, how nice that 75 percent of "key members" of Al Qaeda have been captured, according to Bush. According to independent terrorism experts, the figure has no meaning at all.
As detailed in intelligence reports from around the globe, Al Qaeda has gained strength since 9-11, with our invasion of Iraq acting as its recruiting poster. Further, the network is now more widespread and contains more discrete cells, so the leadership is all over the world. What we need most to catch them is the cooperation of other nations (see below).
and while we are at it ... can you name any terrorist from 911 that has been caught or killed in Iraq? bush says Iraq is CENTRAL to his war on those terrorists ... and yet he has NO results?
boy it doesn't take much to make you feel safer, just a little pablum talk and you roll over and go to sleep.
there is more, but I bet you stopped processing information half way through the first one, decided it was wrong because it conflicts with what you believe and think you really know better.
enjoy your rosy world. check back in a year and see if it is any better eh?

Re: Okay, GWB is President. get on with it
actually I see the marriage ammendment issue as good for america to discuss
I think the democratic party needs a better position on this and that it should be that we agree and go further, that it is a divine covenant between a man and a woman and their god(s).
and that as such it is a religious issue that needs to be defined by each church according to their policies, while secular law should remove all reference to marriage from the books
and instead refer to living units or some other neutral name that can include friends living together to share expenses to communes to whatever people chose for their own comforts.
this ammendment issue is the first step in forcing this to become the case, for once passed, it is a discriminatory definition that makes any law that uses it unconstitutional.
let them have it eh?

Re: Half-serious ideas
point made none-the-less. so there is a break off cult and they do it their way?
the point is that once the word becomes officially defined to be an {included \ excluded} categorization of people it is unconstitutional to use it in laws as it then explicitly discriminates.
all laws that refer to marriage to distinguish taxes, inheritance, visiting rights, benefits, etcetera -- are void.
it will be fun. who will be the next "activist" judge(s) when this goes to court? O'Conner? Scalia? roflol.

Re: You Asked For It, You Got It!
Kerry also got more votes than any previous president, so having a slightly bigger number does not a major victory make. Stating otherwise is another example of being information challenged.
But hey: enjoy the victory, go ahead and think of it as massive.
For any failure in the next two years can no longer be blamed on liberals. That's right: you can quit whining and actually start doing something.
Enjoy it.

Re: You Asked For It, You Got It!
here's another morsel for you to chew on
President Bush is entering his second term facing an escalating casualty rate in Iraq, a record trade deficit, a staggering budget deficit, sky-high oil prices, and a deeply divided nation. As the Republicans face likely failure, progressives need to start preparing for regime change in 2008 or sooner. Remember that Nixon was re-elected with a bigger margin than Bush, but faced impeachment within a year.

Vote reform.
It seems that the e-voting machines have some irregularities in them.
This will only fuel more revision of voting systems.
I voted by absentee ballot this year for the first time, and I look at the difference between that and the "provisional" vote that was used in a lot of places (although not equally well implemented -- ohio sticks out as a bad example).
The point is that you cast a paper ballot vote and put it in an envelope that you seal and sign and certify your elegibility to vote, and in both cases this information is checked to ensure that (1) it is valid (ie that I am registered) and (2) that there are no other votes with my registration tagged on it.
This would seem to answer all the questions republicans raise on voters and the "democratic vote fraud" system.
Take this a step further: make the ballot with a carbon copy that the voter keeps and that it has code number on it.
When the votes are counted they produce a list with the votes opposite the code numbers so that the voter can confirm (1) that the vote was counted and (2) it was counted properly. Add a method to appeal votes that are not counted so that legitimate votes that have been held back can be counted if the correct information is provided.
This would answer all the questions democrats raise on vote counting and the "republican vote fraud" system
Make this program universal, and the lawyers can go to bed with the rest of us when the votes are cast ... the votes can be counted later.

When you become the enemy to win a battle you have lost the war.
The problem is not tolerance but intolerance and how to defuse it.
Liberals will survive and continue to work for improvements: that is what being liberal is about.
I think it was Ned that asked for definitions of liberal and conservative, and to me a liberal looks forward to the future with hope for the opportunities that it implies, while a conservative looks at the future with apprehension, worried that they will have to change. Liberals believe in change, conservatives don't.
Change happens, it is inevitable, so those that are better equipped to understand and manage the changes will be happier. They will also be liberal. Those that fight change and do not try to understand and manage it will be unhappy. They will also be conservative.
There is opportunity. There are libertarians, there are fiscal (old school) conservatives, that are not being served by the current GOP pogrom. The democrats can take fiscal responsibility (pay as you go or financially planned spending) and government review (started by Clinton and Gore and actually resulting in reductions in government size and costs) and incorporate them with a strong emphasis on core American ideals of freedom, liberty, justice, equality and basic individual rights. Show that their programs are based on these concepts and that they are rationally developed to provide the best service to the people of the whole united states, and allow the party to accept even more people and ideas than ever before, and the party will grow. Let the party show the way to voter reform by the way they run their primaries and invite everyone to partake. Solve the issues of voting for multiple candidates and for properly validating and counting votes so that lawyers can cast their votes and go home like other citizens and people can be assured that they have the best voting system in the world -- for we should settle for no less than the best.
That is how to be a model for others to follow.
