I want to vomit.
I am so ashamed of the people of my country. Here is the message that was sent this election: In order to win a presidential election, you must: 1) Relentlessly fear monger to the electorate. In particular, you must appeal to the racists, the homophobes, the uneducated and unsophisticated thinkers, and the wacko Christian fundamentalists. 2) Tell egregious lies about one's opponent. 3) Suppress the minority vote. That's how you win electins if you are a Republican.

quote: Have you read anything about the interim judges that Bush appointed to temporary posts? ...and on what day did he appoint them? Also, you do know that the South swithched it's party affiliation from Democratic to Republican when Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, right?
quote: No, how do you mean?
quote: The people who the Republicans were able to mobilize were quite white, and don't mind the bigotry within the Republican party, apparently.
quote: Have you read the study that indicates that Bush supporters are pretty much divorced from reality and actually believe even more strongly that Iraq was involved in 9/11 after the idea was debunked by the commission?
quote: In Afghanistan.

What's that deficit looking like right now, dawg?
Think it will be paid off by your children or not until your grandkids hit retirement? You can forget any Social Security check for yourself. Your kids will have to support you.

Osama loves Bush, obviously.
Recruiting for Al Qaida is at an all-time high since the Iraq war. 100,000 civilian deaths in Iraq goes a long, long way to breeding thousands and thousands of little Osamas. Oh, and how about that deficit? Cutting taxes and increasing spending...hmmmm...how is that going to work? Oh, and you do know that fewer than 24 hours after Bush won this election he proposed lifting the deficit cap for the FOURTH time in 3 years? They wanted to do it 2 months ago but it wouldn't have looked good to do that while calling Kerry's economic plans into question. This message has been edited by schrafinator, 11-04-2004 03:48 PM

quote: Not going to do anything of the sort. I'm going to get active in my local politics. I'm going to stay current with what my representatives in Congress and the Senate are doing and I'm going to become a letter-writing machine to tell my elected officials what I think. AND, I'm going to get every single person I know to do the same thing. The deficit inflating, civil rights denying, Conservative Christian wacko pandering, fear-mongering, lie-telling, rich person and corporation-protecting, war-loving extremeists will not be allowed to destroy this country without a fight.

quote: Maybe you're right and my moral outrage is clouding my judgement. Show me how I'm wrong about the deficit. Show me how I'm wrong about there being increased recruitment for Al Qaida in Iraq now compared to before our invasion.
Are you just going to ignore my questions? quote: Copout. I made factual assertions. If I have my facts wrong, show me. I listen to facts.

Paisano, can you give an example of the US unilaterally invading a country, overthrowing the government, and installing a new leader friendly to us at the moment that has succeeded in producing a lasting, real democracy?
IOW, when has nation-building ever worked fo us in the past?

quote: He's going to have one hell of a fight if he tries: http://www.signonsandiego.com/...041105/news_1n5specter.html In fact, this might be the issue that finally brings the infection in the Republican party to the surface. We might see the party implode as the FNeoCons and the real Republicans go at each other.

quote: Yeah, we're sorry for being involved in and caring about what happens to our country's government and the effect the leaders we elect have on us and the rest of the world. It really is dumb and silly to take this stuff seriously, it's true. I know you are still in school and probably don't have to worry much about things like keeping your health insurance, putting a roof over your head, feeding your kids and being able to send them to college, keeping your job, taking a pay cut, getting laid off, seeing your retirement savings evaporate, seeing prices for everything go up, your civil liberties being eroded, etc. Get back to me when you are out of school and have to move back with your parents because all there is out there are McJobs. quote: ...except that here in Michigan, the ammendment was written so poorly and broadly that it denies all benefits and marriage to all civil unions, domestic partners, etc. In my county, the amendment was rejected 30%/70%. It's no surprise that my county is a magnet for gay couples because they already grant them domestic partner benefits, including the right to adopt children. Tell me, what are these "deep concerns" people have about gay people?
