Your head might explode when you read this, but I'm willing to risk it.
This is some crazy shizzle.

RiverRat, if you are going to comment upon the content or implications of the article linked to in the OP, then please do so.
Otherwise, please stop derailing this thread. The topic is; "anti-abortion activists still get abortions"

quote: Yes. Argue the point, not the person. So, your comments describing the author as "crazy" or whatever is not appropriate, and the fact that you have yet to address the article and point of the OP is also not appropriate. If you wish to comment upon the article in the opening post, please do so. What do you think about the fact that anti-aborion activists have abortions? quote: The point is to show that the choice to have an abortion or not is a personal, individual choice, and that even those who seem to believe with all their hearts that abortion is murder and should be illegal still avail themselves of a safe, legal abortion when they have determined that they really need one. These people have no problem judging other people and feeling morally superior to them, but they suddenly have to construct a different moral standard for themselves when their own circumstances force them to have to confront the situation themselves. The point was to show the logical disconnet; that they believe that their abortion is the "only moral abortion", that somehow they can convince themselves their circumstances are completely different from every other woman's in the world. That is incredibly powerful, and uncovers a great truth about at least some in the anti-choice movement.
quote: What are you talking about??? All pro-choice organizations I have ever heard of or been involved with are also strong advocates of contraception, sexual health and responsibility education, family planning services, women's social and economic empowerment, enforcement of child care laws, and domestic violence education. It is the anti-choice people who want to keep young people ignorant of sexual health and contraception, limit family planning services as much as they can, make contraception harder to get (even wanting to allow pharmacists to not dispense prescriptions for contraception), etc. What kind of la-la land do you live in that you don't see that this is the case?

quote: Since the article doesn't do that, I am not sure why you keep implying that it does.
quote: Because there is a very vocal, radical religious minority that is hell-bent upon framing the debate that way. It is because these people are attacking our rights for no other reason than their religious fanatacism and their desire to invade my life and force me to follow their religious morals. Go to the Planned Parenthood website, rat, if you want the truth about the pro-choice movement. Read through the "Health Info", "Education" and "International" sections if you want to know what they are doing to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Then, go to the website for the National Right to Life movement and see how much they are doing to promote contraception, sexual health and responsibility education, and other tried and true methods for recucing unwanted pregnancy. The comparison is shocking, I assure you.
quote: Evidence for this claim? I think that the biggest determinant of having sex at a young age being detrimental is the guilt and shame and "dirtyness" associated with it in certain cultures, such as our own. In other cultures where children are taught that sex is natural and normal and that respect for others and being responsible for oneself and one's partners is part and parcel of having sex, I don't think you're going to find that sex at a young age "messes up" many people.
quote: No, rat. Many people in our society, namely the pro-choice supporters, believe the solution is to educate children about sexual health and responsible sex ual behavior, and to make contraception widely available and free or inexpensive. That way, kids can make informed, responsible choices regarding if they want to have sex, and if they do, how to prevent unwanted pregnancy, and thus abortion. Anti-choice policies result in more unwanted pregnancy, not less. This message has been edited by schrafinator, 03-26-2006 12:11 PM

quote: So, you are a moral relativist, then, just like holmes? You believe that buggering little children, or infanticide, or taking females as property to be plundered as the spoils of war would be OK as long as "the times were completely different"?

I wrote my post carelessly, holmes, sorry.
I just added your name as emphasis to riverrat, not as a way to assign to you the examples in my post.

You are just pulling stuff out of your backside, rat.
Tell me, have you gone to the Planned Parenthood website and looked at the sections I pointed you to to see what they are doing to prevent unwanted pregnancy, and then did you go to the National Right to Life website, and see what they are doing to prevent unwanted pregnancy?

You stoned the girl to death because of those property issues, not because of her base immorality. Read Leviticus. Then you replied:
